    HCR tonight

    It’s not just a coup. It’s a Nazi coup.
Not on our watch! We will keep faith with all our forebears who sacrificed to make this nation strong and kind.

    1. listener, I read HCR. How do we stop these people? I see people demonstrating -- civil servants, students, trans people. I'm sorry, but I don't see how street action will make any difference; the fascists will just laugh at people. More is needed: civil disobedience, general strikes. And I doubt that even that will make any difference. I'm confused and in a funk, but these people terrify me. -- nordy

    2. nordy...there's a national protest planned for February 28th, which will hit them where they live. People are asked to NOT buy anything at all on that day (unless it's a small, local shop). So plan ahead and don't buy lots the day before or after or that will blunt the impact. Then there will be a 3-day economic blackout, and later more.

It's a start. It really does matter to call your Congress people a lot. R's especially, because they are sensitive to what their constituents expect and fear losing their next election. But D's too, because they need to feel we have their backs, and muster the courage to keep fighting.

    1. China and Japan have both been selling off some of their US Treasury bonds; I suppose at least some other countries have taken note and are following suit.

  3. Reflecting on the past three and a half weeks: Ah, yes. Making America great again. To paraphrase Arthur Dent, "This is obviously a use of the word 'great' that I was not previously aware of."

  5. Venting at Democrats and fearing Trump, liberal donors pull back cash

NYT: The demoralization and fear gripping blue America in the early weeks of President Donald Trump’s administration have left liberal groups and their allies struggling for cash, hurting their ability to effectively combat the right-wing transformation of the federal government.
Charitable foundations that have long supported such causes as voting rights, LGBTQ+ equality and immigrants’ rights are pulling back, devoting time to prepare for expected investigations from the Republican-led Congress.

And some of the country’s biggest liberal donors have paused giving, frustrated with what they see as Democrats’ lack of vision and worried about retaliation from a vengeful president. -- nordy

  6. I found several coffee roasters in Vancouver BC, some of whom advertise free shipping to both Canada and US.

  7. So, if I had my druthers, I'd be off both Facebook and Instagram. But here's the thing...
Daughter posts photos of the grands and an elder grand posts on FB too. I only got on Instagram this past year because that's where the two elder grands post. PhD*Son stopped posting photos on Fb, but posts them on Instagram sometimes.

Case in point: A couple days ago PhD*Son posted a photo of himself near some sort of body of water. No caption. So, I asked, "Where?" His response: "Brazil!" I never would have known he was there! Today he posted a photo of Water Buffalos, and by the vegetation around them I could see he's in the Amazon Basin. I don't know when he gets back and exactly why he is there but it looks like field research of some sort.

Also, VT*Grand posted a collage of herself with her boyfriend at Valentine's. The things I have to put up with to stay connected. Ha!

  8. Living so close to the border, we get CTV (Canadian Television). I am watching Canadian News from Quebec and learned that Amazon is closing its 7 warehouses in Quebec and laying off 12,000 employees. I wonder if Amazon is leaving all of Canada. There is a movement there to boycott Amazon entirely. Wil and I were already doing so here.
