    1. Canute was a sharp fella. Trump would just sit there screaming at the tide till it came in and washed him away. Not a bad idea, actually. Now, iff there were a way to get Vance and Johnson in on the act, like tie them to the arms of the throne, voila, problem solved and nobody's life would be ruined by being tried for assassination. It was an act of God.

/sigh/Anybody else feel like it has been ten years, rather than four weeks?

  3. Musk’s cost-cutting team is laying off workers at the auto safety agency overseeing his car company
AP: Elon Musk’s cost-cutting team is eliminating jobs at the vehicle safety agency that oversees Tesla and has launched investigations into deadly crashes involving his company’s cars.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has cut a “modest” amount of positions, according to a statement from the agency. Musk has accused NHTSA of holding back progress on self-driving technology with its investigations and recalls. -- nordy

    1. Much of the job cutting seems to be in areas that threaten Musk in some way. I still haven't figured out this beef with the Park Service and the Forestry service, but there must be one somewhere.

  4. Associated Press Sues White House Officials to Restore Access
Bloomberg: The Associated Press sued three White House officials after its reporters were banned from covering events at the White House and traveling aboard Air Force One over President Donald Trump’s objection to how the news organization references “Gulf of America” in its style guide.“The White House’s indefinite denial of the AP’s access was based on the content and perceived viewpoint of the AP’s reporting and editorial decisions, and constituted impermissible retaliation against the AP,” the newswire said in the complaint. -- nordy

  5. Back in their districts, GOP lawmakers get an earful on DOGE and Musk
Wapo: Town halls this week for congressional Republicans from Georgia to Wisconsin to Oregon grew testy as voters showed up to vent, outraged at the firing of workers and the Department of Government Efficiency’s access to sensitive data. Protesters showed up around the country at lawmakers’ offices.
The backlash extends far beyond federal workers in the Beltway, reaching purple districts that will decide control of Congress in 2026 and swing states like Georgia that helped return Trump to the White House. -- nordy

  6. Pope Francis in critical condition after respiratory crisis
Guardian: Pope Francis was in critical condition on Saturday after he suffered a prolonged asthmatic respiratory crisis while being treated for pneumonia and a complex lung infection, the Vatican said. The 88-year-old pope, who remains conscious, received “high flows” of oxygen to help him breathe. -- nordy

    1. Thanks for the update, Nordy. Last I heard, His Holiness was doing well. This latest turn is most worrying!

    2. I have seen amazing recoveries of ICU patients, even elderly ones, with pneumonia. Indeed, pneumonia is not uncommon among ICU patients. For Francis I should not be surprised if they were to resort to heroic means. Let those who pray, pray.

    3. Yes, but, Pope Francis has suffered with respiratory issues for many years and had part of a lung removed, plus he’s no Spring chicken!

    4. Prayers ensuing for his well being, his gentle crossing over when that day ever comes, and for his future successor. Francis will be a tough act to follow and in a fraught time.

Currently, 74% of the state's dairy herds are infected with H5N1."

Alan, have you heard anything about this?

You have to picture me typing this out, having to backspace all the brackets that show after EVERY space, then cutting and pasting in the o‘s and l’s!!
