Rise, Love, Resist

Code Pink Women For Peace has been working for many years to counter the culture and economy of war/violence. Since the election of Donald Trump, they have taken to heart the admonition attributed to Joe Hill, "Don't mourn, organize." To this end, they have launched a new campaign, Rise, Love, Resist. Read about it at the link below and sign the pledge. The only way to counter Trump's miasma of hatred is to stand together in love and strength.

Remember, "love" and "peace" are not synonyms of "weakness." Quite the opposite! Hatred is born of weakness, insecurity and fear. Those whose livelihoods and neighborhoods are at risk, who believe their religious and cultural values are under attack, these are among the vulnerable Trumps demagoguery has inflamed with fear of people different than themselves and with hate. It is only by creating solidarity, making real, tangible and lasting repairs to the fabric of American life, material and spiritual, that decades of divisive, supply side, trickle down, rich get richer and poor get poorer policies have bred that the fear can be allayed and the hatred disarmed. Fighting hate with hate can only produce more hate. It can only be overcome with the constructive power of love.

So, don't think this initiative, or Code Pink in general, is for sissies. It is, on the contrary, not for the faint of heart! Their work, as always with work for the Good, is difficult and arduous and sometimes dangerous, yet essential...and never more so than now.

    1. It happened before Obama was born, but I am old enough to remember when President Eisenhower nationalized the Arkansas National Guard and sent them into Little Rock together with the 101st Airborne Division to maintain peace and order. I sent the White house an e-mail unfavorably comparing Obama's so-far craven behavior with that of Eisenhower.

    2. At the outdoor prayer service today, one of the speakers decried Pres. Obama's failure to act in support of the water defenders.

Unions and the Democratic Party have to get back to basics.

  3. I wish I trusted the Democratic Party, but I don't. Look how quickly all the establishment Dems jumped on the Hillary bandwagon because it was "her turn". The people demonstrated in every way possible, but their donations and by the overflow crowds at stadia around the country that we wanted Bernie. That we wanted change, that we were so over the status quo. I got a call from a Sherrod Brown boiler-room operation today - you could hear all the other operators talking in the background. I got off the phone quickly because I (ironically) actually started a nosebleed right after I answered the phone. It's good he's starting early because he's up for re-election in 2018. Still, I have a hard time forgetting he was one of the fervent Hillary endorsers.

And then look at what the Democrats are doing! Appointing Chuck Schumer as Minority Leader. If there is a "Democrat" alive who is more likely to make deals with Republicans I don't know who it would be. Appointing Bernie to Outreach is simply a ploy to try to bring his supporters back into the fold. They don't seem to realize that a great number of his supporters were Independents and Republicans and they are NEVER going to come into the fold. I don't intend to myself. I will keep a wary eye on them, but I think we are on our own. I don't think anybody is going to work on our behalf, I don't think anyone is going to protect us. I think it's all on us.

    1. As I see it, what we need to do is elect Democrats who will truly represent us. I simply, simply, simply cannot imagine a Republican doing that. And the US government structure mean that no third party can provide a meaningful long-term alternative. It must either capture/merge with/replace an existing major party, becoming a major party itself, or remain a meaningless fringe.

    1. In fact they are well past the million dollars they need by Friday, and heading for the second million at a rate of hundreds of thousands of dollars per hour. Audaces fortuna iuvat, today as in the past. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

    2. It seems the link I put to the Ohio donation page is wonky. But you can find a working link at "It's Starting..."

    5. It certainly does seem that they will be able to raise the 2.5 megabucks they sought by 4PM Friday...
That, as I understand it, should take care of the application fees for all three states. Then come sizable administrative fees.

  7. 11PM, time to hit the sack, and the Green recount fundraiser is at 2.44 of 2.5 megabucks target (in about half a day, I think). That funds the applications for all three recounts. Nice.
