  1. Was out and about all day and didn't connect with my computer much. But! Notes on the last thread, at last!

  2. Wil and I are going to the protest today in Montpelier, Vermont's capitol. It's a 3 hour event, noon to 3pm, but rain invades arounf 1:00pm. So we'll see how long we last. Bringing unbrellas...though not a poster this time. Will take photos!

    1. Includes an interview with Paul Schumer, laying out how (1) the groundwork has been laid to force the Republicans to go individually on the record for whether they support or oppose each of Trump's actions, preparing for the upcoming political campaigns, and (2) how a single line item has been or will be entered into the agendas of both House and Senate reasserting Congress's total constitutional control over tariffs. I hope I may be forgiven for having forgotten that bit of the Constitution, but it has never come up during my lifetime (or that of my parents, I think). I fell asleep before Elizabeth Warren came on.

    2. "Section 8: Powers of Congress
The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises..." Although the word "tariff" is not specifically included, it is covered among the specified terms.

    1. Certainly must have been quite a moment when the crowd broke out with "O Canada"! Hand across the border and all that!

Illinois Republicans Suffered Major Election Losses
April 5, 2025 By Taegan Goddard

The Illinois Democratic Party backed 280 candidates on the ballot for various local offices across the state last week and 222, or 79% of them, were victorious, the Chicago Tribune reports.

    Works for me.

    1. Oak Park elections are nonpartisan. It's assumed all the rival candidates are Democrats.

  8. I note a continuing discontinuity between polls and elections; one poll after another shows Trump's ratings down just a bit, but Republicans are doing ever more poorly in elections.
