“There is no greater threat to democracy than the accumulation of state power in the hands of a single, unelected individual," says the lawsuit, filed by New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez and officials from Arizona, Michigan, Maryland, Minnesota, California, Nevada, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii. "Although our constitutional system was designed to prevent the abuses of an 18th century monarch, the instruments of unchecked power are no less dangerous in the hands of a 21st century tech baron." Two of the 14 states are led by Republican governors.
"By then Hitler no longer needed either Hugenberg’s corporate contacts or his Reichstag delegates. The bankers and industrialists who had once shunned the crass, divisive, right-wing extremist had gradually come to embrace him as a bulwark against the pro-union Social Democrats and the virulently anti-capitalist Communists. Six months earlier, three weeks before Hitler’s appointment as chancellor, the banker Kurt Baron von Schröder had met with Hitler at Schröder’s villa in a fashionable quarter of Cologne. The arrangements were cloak-and-dagger: Hitler made an unscheduled, early-morning exit from a train in Bonn, entered a hotel, ate a quick breakfast, then departed in a waiting car with curtained rear windows to be driven to the Schröder villa while a decoy vehicle drove in the opposite direction. Hitler walked out of the meeting with a 30 million reichsmark credit line that saved his political movement from bankruptcy," writes Timothy W. Ryback.
It could also jeopardize the safety of patients…doctors need all the info in their patients and a judge has ordered that the info be put back. They went too far when they erased medical information!!!
I had assumed that the old Senate Hotel in DC had been owned and operated by the Senate. I finally found its location and a picture postcard showing it. It was evidently a small commercial hotel conveniently located between the railway station and the Capitol. ----Alan
So, being particularly angry this morning I called Senator Schumer’s office and left a message. I told him that I am older than he is, so this is not about age, but he must either step up or step down. We are facing a party that recognizes no rules, no laws, not even the Constitution. Dealing with them via Robert’s Rules of Order simply WILL NOT WORK.
I reminded him that when the President of South Korea declared martial law the MP’s did everything they could physically do to get into the assembly and vote it down. They crawled between the legs of the police, they climbed over walls and fences. They voted martial law down and they saved Korean democracy for now.
I’m so tired of the weak sauce they keep serving up. I intend to call Hakeem Jeffries too. Meeting with billionaire donors will not help us. The other side has MORE MONEY, and they have support from Putin, Urban and their ilk. ~Susan
Yet it's not the Dems that are make it easy for the clown car to bumble along, it's the Repubs who have the deciding votes and have put all the wrong people in charge, and let Muck and his muckrats run amok!
The White House on Friday said it will bar the Associated Press from future events in the Oval Office and Air Force One, over the AP's refusal to obey President Trump's executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. Axios: Why it matters: The decision will be met with fury from press advocates, who have argued over the past week, during which the White House barred the AP from three previous events, that penalizing the news organization for its editorial standards sets a dangerous precedent for press freedoms. -- nordy
Thanks, Nordy. I thought the AP had caved in. Good to know they haven't.
In a related development, seems so many people have been going into Google Maps to "correct" the Gulf of America to, for instance, del Gringo Bandito or del Gringo Loco, that Google had to turn off the correction function. Pity. It was fun while it lasted.
You recall, HE got vaccinated, and I'd bet dollars to doughnuts he has kept up with all his boosters.
You know, if Covid only killed MAGAs, I'd be just fine with this. Problem is, it won't just be MAGAs that get sick and die if there's a resurgence of Covid.
Trump is evil, and his clearly being a madman does not mitigate that fact. It just seems to make him more malignant.

ReplyDeleteABC: 14 states sue DOGE, blasting Musk's 'unprecedented' power as unconstitutional
The suit says Musk's role violates the Appointments Clause of the Constitution.

[Vermont is one of them.]
Miyoko found a small centipede in the bathroom; that's very unusual.

Hmmm.... finding a centipede in our house is very unusual. Not the fact that it was small.

DeleteEverybody’s got to be someplace.
We occasionally come across a spider in the house in Winter.
Better a small centipede than a large millipede! /shudder/

The best we can do at this point is to turn off Google and use another search engine. I recommend "Brave," because it keeps all our data private.
