  4. We got the last of our raisins dried, removed the capstems and sorted them by size. Then we cleaned by rinsing in tap water, then bringing them to a gentle boil in fresh water and lightly rinsing them once more, which puffed them up. Then we warmed them in the oven on baking trays, followed by packing them in tightly covered plastic containers to equalize their moisture. The smallest ones were dosed generously with brandy before being sealed in a container; they are destined for baking. We ended up with more large and medium raisins than we anticipated. Comparing them with the contents of a bag of Sun-Maid raisins that Naomi bought for snacking, we were shocked at how small the commercial raisins were--- they were MICRO raisins, quite a bit smaller than our smallest ones. So, a good job done.

    1. Nice to hear the raisins turned out nice and big! Talk about inspiration to bake!
On Sunday we'll be going to the O Bread Bakery at Shelburne Farms again (where we met up with Bernie a few months back), to buy some more of their amazing whole grain raisin bread. We arrive as it's coming out of the oven, and leave with it still very warm. It's too warm to cut, so we rip off a piece and, well, it's so good only about half the loaf is left by the time we get home. 😁

  5. I noticed an unkind person referred to the Republican Vice-Presidential candidate as "JV Dunce." I rather enjoy it, unkind though it be.

    1. Speaking of unkind, someone stole our cute "Cat People for Harris Walz" sign! Rather than be bullied, we will make a new one and set it out, and make an extra donation to the Harris/Walz campaign. We invite others to show support for Harris/Walz, and us, and for decency, by doing likewise.

  7. Thanks for holding down the fort all day, Alan! On Saturday we went sailing with a friend who'd stayed over the night before. She lives a couple hours away and it was the first time she'd seen our boat. So that was fun.
