    1. No problem at all, listener; I hope there was something interesting to others. Too bad about your cat people sign taking legs. BTW, that reminds me that lately I have been thinking it is odd that light pink people are referred to as "white." [OK, a strange association, but consider the source.]

    2. Remember Doonsbury's Zonker Harris selling "Nerd Care" ~ for folks who didn't want to harm their skin by tanning? It came in "Pale, a Whiter Shade of Pale, and new Minty Green"! (Google: Doonsbury, July 26, 1992!)

Apparently Netanyahu has decided he's the only person in the world that matters. Really, all the dictators in the world ought to be locked up!

    2. Israel is supposed to be a democracy. So, why don't they get rid of their fascist criminal PM?

    3. I could be wrong, but I think Israel is a parliamentary democracy, so there is no direct popular vote for Prime Minister; that is a weakness of such systems.

    4. Netanyahu also has decided he can stay in office as long as he is a war president, hence the offensive against Lebanon. -- nordy

    5. Putin and Netanyahu need an enemy to justify their existence and they have convinced themselves that they have a righteous mission. Those emperors are plainly mistaken.

  4. Via politicalwire.com:

The new NBC News poll finds Kamala Harris’ favorability has jumped 16 points since July — the largest increase for any politician in NBC News polling since George W. Bush’s standing surged after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

It seems that people are beginning to pay attention, just about on schedule.

  5. Harris Changes How Democrats Court Latino Voters
September 22, 2024 By Taegan Goddard

“Kamala Harris doesn’t talk often about her Black and South Asian American identity. She’s not talking to Latino voters about theirs either,” Politico reports.
“It’s a major shift in how Democrats are targeting Latino voters this cycle — and a rebuke of the belief long held by many Democrats that overt appeals on race and progressive policies on immigration are key to winning Latino votes.”

Sounds reasonable; to treat such a large group of voters as "others" never seemed likely to be effective to me.

    1. It's nice to hear good news of Americans acting like Americans. Tim Walz is right - we are all neighbors, and neighbors look out for each other. His ideas remind me irresistibly of Mr. Rodgers. Guess Walz grew up watching him like I did.

    3. Yes, indeed. I am really liking this campaign duo ... and all the more since Tim Walz was added. Kudos to Kamala Harris for choosing him, even though she knew some of the other contenders more.

    1. It is perfectly legal to run for President from one's prison cell. Granted that it hasn't been done since 1920, the precedent has been established.

    2. How about from a padded cell? At the rate Trump is going, he'll end up in the psych ward of whatever prison he's assigned to.

    4. Historical note:
Richard Lawrence, attempted assassin of Andrew Jackson [Wikipedia]:

Lawrence was brought to trial on April 11, 1835, at the District of Columbia City Hall. The prosecuting attorney was Francis Scott Key. At his trial, Lawrence was prone to wild rants and he refused to recognize the legitimacy of the proceedings. At one point he said to the courtroom, "It is for me, gentlemen, to pass judgment on you, and not you upon me." After only five minutes of deliberation, the jury found Lawrence "not guilty by reason of insanity".
In the years following his acquittal, Lawrence was held by several institutions and hospitals. In 1855, he was committed to the newly opened Government Hospital for the Insane (later renamed St. Elizabeths Hospital), in Washington, D.C., where he remained until his death on June 13, 1861.

Note: Lawrence was a house painter, presumably poisoned by the heavy metals in the house paints of the day.

    5. Ah, the lead in paint caused a number of famous painters to lose their sanity over time. So sad.
I'm all the more grateful for my water-soluble oils that contain no lead and are less toxic that regular oils!

  8. Ohio residents flock to Springfield's Haitian restaurants: "They are family"
Guardian: The line down the center of the Rose Goute Creole restaurant on Springfield, Ohio’s South Limestone Street is halfway out the door. It’s been like this ever since former president Donald Trump falsely accused immigrants in Springfield of eating cats and dogs during a televised debate on 10 September.

At the back of the restaurant, kitchen staff scramble to take orders and load plates of herring patties, rice and beans, and barbecued chicken legs on to serving trays. Outside, cars with plates from Georgia, Wisconsin and Indiana – diners who’ve stopped off a nearby highway to show support for the Haitian community – fill the parking lot. --nordy

  10. Liz Cheney suggests a new polical party may be needed.
(NYT) Former Rep. Liz Cheney, who has emerged as perhaps the most vocal and visible conservative critic of former President Donald Trump, suggested Friday that a new political party might need to be created to replace the Republican Party if he is defeated.

Cheney, who represented Wyoming in Congress and served in the House Republican leadership but recently crossed party lines to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for president, said that the party she has devoted her life to may not be able to survive as a viable institution after being effectively hijacked by Trump.

“Whether it’s organizing a new party — look, it’s hard for me to see how the Republican Party, given what it has done, can make the argument convincingly or credibly that people ought to vote for Republican candidates until it really recognizes what it’s done,” Cheney said. --nordy
