    Bonus Quote of the Day
January 8, 2024 By Taegan Goddard

“His numbers are better historically than they have been when he was in the White House. Part of it is that people have forgotten what he did. He sort of disappeared. He just says crazy shit on Truth Social that no young voter ever sees. Once there’s an actual campaign and people are highlighting it, journalists like you will start to focus on those issues and start to write pieces on this. That’s what campaigns do. They drive those contrasts.“

    — Former Obama campaign manager Jim Messina, quoted by Vanity Fair, on Donald Trump’s appeal to young voters.

    2. Putting MBA's in charge rather than engineers, moving headquarters to Chicago, and anti-union activities just might have something to do with Boeing's problems. The quality of work at their non-union east coast factory (in South Carolina?) has been so poor that some customers have refused to accept planes manufactured there. The computer problems that caused their air crash disasters a while back were caused by young and inexperienced programmers who were working in isolation from the manufacturing engineers. (As memory serves me, it was traced back to "spaghetti code.") I think I should prefer to fly on an Airbus craft, but I haven't flown in years.

  7. Hey All,
We are expecting some snow, some rain and winds around 65-70mph Tuesday night. It's supposed to be worst on the western slopes of the Green Mountains, which includes my house. So, if I seem to disappear for a few days it could be a massive power outage...as widespread power outages are expected. That said, we are fortunate that the winds will be blowing from the southeast, which means the tall White Pines nearby would more likely fall into the large backyard instead of on roof and cars here. And even if we lose power, we may have wifi...depends on how the mountaintop towers fare in the winds. But fear not: I have blog posts set through mid-month, and we have a heat source even when the power is out...which means we can still heat up water and soup and so on. All good!
