Good Luck, Texas!

  1. Continuing from yesterday's thread:

Don't beat up on yourself, Cat; if there was stupidity and disloyalty that lost Clinton the presidency, it was that of the candidate and the institutional Democratic Party, not third-party voters. You and I could not possibly have been the only third-party voters who felt free to do so precisely because the outcome in our states was so lopsided and predictable. In a time when people were thirsting for change, Clinton's unstated but obvious campaign slogan was MORE OF THE SAME! And loyalty is a two-way street; just as employers have no claim to the loyalty of employees whom they treat as serfs (or worse), political parties that turn their backs on their supporters will eventually pay the price. The "New Democrats" had about a forty-year run.

  2. I will never be blindly loyal to corruption and I will not co-sign cheating. Debbie and her gang effectively stole the votes of Bernie supporters. We were told specifically "we don't need you" and Chuck Schumer was saying that for every working class Dem they lost in PA they would gain two moderate Republicans. It's not our fault they were blind A-holes. That's the game they chose to play. They made up their own rules. So when they lose they do NOT get to blame us for refusing to play along. They're not done. They're touting Kamala Harris who has a truly terrible record and they are trying to use guilt to stampede us in the direction they want us to go. Not gonna happen. Unfortunately we all pay the price when Republicans rule, but how many hard smacks to the head will it take to wake up the Democratic Establishment? We're not playing any more and they STILL don't seem to get it.

    1. I think they simply don't know any other way to think. Very often the old way of doing things falls into ruin before the new way is formed. Think newspapers, and long before that, the printing press, which put bibles into the hands of the multitudes. If electric cars become practical [say, because of the glass battery] the effects will be so wide ranging as to be barely comprehensible. I see no reason to believe that political parties should be exempt.

P.S.: I was looking at the front page of the newspaper today and it occurred to me that banner headlines such as "Tens of Thousands Flee Houston as Trump Pardons Arpaio" could be interesting. And where are the TV preachers saying that the hurricane is God's punishment of Texas for voting for Trump?

    1. Yes, because a man who is empty and barren on the inside must put on an outside display to conceal his inner emptiness.

    2. Being in all likelihood less than a success--probably less than mediocre--in military boarding school, a draft dodger and pathologically in need of social acceptance/dominance, it feeds his psyche to have generals kowtow to him. Whether said generals have any concept of the great arc of history or even military history matters not a bit to him. It is reasonable to wonder if he could even locate Afghanistan on a globe if it were not labeled. Certainly he can't discuss how or when the border was set, much less the wisdom or foolishness of it.

  5. So, after all this focus on Harvey, turns out my Eldest, who has been in Taiwan all week serving as an International TaeKwonDo referee at the Taipei Universiade (basically the Olympics for college students), has been waiting to hear what would happen with Tropical Storm Pahkar. I didn't realise he had flown in through Hong Kong last weekend (which was hit with a Cat 2 on Wednesday!), and will be flying out through Hong Kong Sunday afternoon (as Pahkar makes landfall). Fortunately, the storm seems to be staying a Tropical Storm (it had been expected to reach cyclone strength) and is veering a little further from Hong Kong. We are hopeful!

    1. The new Hong Kong airport (maybe not so new now) is far safer than the old one.

  6. The Disability Pride Parade Planning Committee celebrated teh 14th consecutive successful parade with a dinner at the Exchequer Pub. Their rib are outstanding, although next time I will go back to the regular BBQ ribs rather than the slightly saltier brown-sauce Mediterranean rib. Good appetizer selection and I finished with a Drambui (at my own expense.)
