Autumn Gold

  1. The wind is picking up in Vermont, but Howard Dean is still first.

  2. Passing by...

Cool today--like Autumn. Researching cars, will help Naomi to buy on Saturday. The Internet sure does help; Consumer Reports, too. Insurance lined up, model chosen, prices gathered, less expensive sources for accessories discovered. Honda financing at 0.9% through Monday. (Fed meeting on Monday will probably increase inflation and therefore interest rates). TTFN--gotta get my beauty sleep!

  3. Read through the recent posts; sorry, puddle, I didn't watch the Meg Whitman video. Don't need the aggravation. She hasn't sent me any campaign blurbs, but the Jerry Brown and the California Democratic Party sure have. Interesting that the latter seems only to support the former. But only one of the flyers arrived before I voted [for Laura Wells]. Wonder how much Meg W. will end up spending per vote... and now to bed for real.

  4. The purpose of the expected Fed action is to *decrease* interest rates in the short term. And yes, to keep inflation at something like current levels rather than have it go negative.

  5. Remained quite windy overnight. High wind warning continues to 7 pm, although we're now mostly seeing gusts with not a lot of steady wind.

Newspaper says two toronadoes touched down in the broader Chicago metro area, neither particularly near here. No casualties. But elsewhere in the area winds drove a tree branch through the body of a car driver. She's in fair condition.

Meteorologists point out that these conditions are not terribly uncommon for October in Chicago. The storm is unusual mostly for the huge geographic area it covers.

  6. I'll be glad when puddle checks in. I suspect that she has lost power.
    Hope that's all. ♥

  7. Alan ~~ you would have laughed: the Meg Whitman video is a Jerry Brown ad, and a genius of one, too. . .

  8. Sitting here waiting for the house-call vet who scheduled to be here between 4pm and 5pm. Heh.
Hubby stopped his house project next door (he's helping a neighbour) to be here. But I sent him back so he wouldn't lose precious daylight on a precious warm day. It has been in the 60's here all day. I can tell my blood has already begun to thicken up for Winter because it's short-sleeve weather for me, when usually I like 70's for that. Ha!

  9. I'm in short sleeves today too. It's been warm, very muggy and depressingly overcast all day. The rain finally started maybe an hour ago, but it isn't very impressive.

It's a great relief to see Puddle here!

Finished a book I was reading, but otherwise I've accomplished nothing today. Can't seem to kick myself into gear...

  10. listener, I never did get to your weather link last night ~~ just after I clicked it, my whole machine froze. And I do mean FROZE: I even lost my cursor. Finally gave up and just turned it off via the power button. And was too tired to start the whole process over, so just went to bed. Prolly not related at all just a this/then this. . . .

  11. Oh! And meant to tell you ~~ I cut the piggy ups from this update because it was in the last one.

  12. I'm also glad to see puddle here.

Almost 7 but still strong wind gusts. Temps earlier were in the 60s, which would have been pleasant absent the wind.

  13. Here is an AWESOME story of forgiveness. I am in awe of this wonderful family:

  14. Oh, thanks for catching that!!
It's on a separate area of the page, and I wasn't sure whether I'd sent it last time or not.

  15. Oh shoot. I went to click Reply and hit Delete instead. I hate it when that happens! What I deleted was my post saying I was waiting for the vet to arrive. She was due to come between 4 and 5 pm and finally showed up at 5:30pm. I understand things happen to delay doctors, but a phone call would have helped...which I did tell her. Sigh.

We're waiting now on blood tests. Poor Emma-kitty had to have her neck shaved again and poked really hard with a needle (then moved around seeking a vein. Grrrr). If all goes well she won't need another blood test until this time next year. Hoping the bloodwork comes back all good. We'll know by Monday.

My post also spoke about my having gone outside today in short sleeves! (I planted white crocus bulbs.) It has been warm the last two days and I was glad to be able to be out in it today since I worked yesterday. Colder weather is coming, but we got sunshine the second half of today. Sow expected this weekend, but just a little bit.

  16. Hmmm...well, I suppose the graphics on the site are sophisticated enough that it could confuse a less saavy machine. Try going to their home page first, then scrolling down the lefthand column and clicking on the radar graphic. After that follow the other directions about zooming out, repositioning over your location, then zooming back in...and rolling your cursor over an icon to see that storm cell's direction and timing, and double clicking on it to see more storm information.

(The same goes for everybody here!!)

    (Not One Of) History’s Mysteries
    Bookstore | Chicago, IL, USA

(I am helping a little boy find a children’s book on Native American history for a book report.)

Me: “I think this one will come in handy. It’s all about the different Native American tribes and traditions. It even includes a large map showing where the Native American tribes lived.”

    Little Boy: “Thank you!”

(He walks away with his book and an adult customer approaches me.)

Customer: “Why did you do that?”

    Me: “Do what?”

Customer: “Tell him those are real.”

    Me: “Native Americans?”

    Customer: “Yes!”

    Me: “Because they are real.”

Customer: “No! They only exist in movies with cowboys!”

Me: “I can assure you that Native Americans exist.”

Customer: *mocking* “I suppose you believe cowboys really existed, too?”

  22. ROFL!! I'll tell ya...if pigs begin to fly in Vermont it's going to be very hazardous outside. :-D

    Here's the missing letter: "n".

  23. No kidding?! That's downright spoooky!

Please tell me that person also doesn't believe people vote.
