  1. Howard Dean is first. *He* was aware of what the corporations were doing to our country. Given his remarks about the media giants, I don't think he would have been so "hands off" with the corporations.

I am sick, sick, sick about the oil spill. But still, it is but a symptom of the greed that will eventually destroy our country. Our democracy fell victim to greed a long time ago.

I no longer hope for change. As long as corporations continue to value profits over people, and politicians value donors over constituents nothing will change. As long as we measure a person's worth by how high they can stack their money nothing will change.

Our educational systems don't get fixed because our rulers prefer an ignorant populace (cough) Texas (cough).

George Carlin had it right, "They call it The American Dream because you can only believe it if you're sleeping".

    I'm wide awake.

  2. Biggol thunder tigers prowling the perimeter ~~ impressive. Got thunderstorm warnings and flash flood watches in my email inbox. And no drop of rain, though the wind has picked up a bit.

Susan, I'd say don't give up, but I feel that way too often myself, so instead, I'll just send you hugs.

  3. listener, thanks for checking on Jessica. We had a thunderstorm and, briefly, terrific wind. I missed the wind, though, because the AC was on so I couldn't hear much of anything. I was told it was most impressive.

Bill, sorry your work has not been going well. I can't use Acrobat Reader myself, and consistently have great difficulty with other Adobe products. Guess they haven't gotten the word about accessibility. Have a good time at the con. Renee left her e-mail address on a recent thread...

I haven't accomplished anything today, and am soooooooooooooo tired, though I don't know why. Still, must pull myself together...

  4. Susan, I sympathize entirely. It seems to me though that our failing educational system is less a product of deliberate malicious intent and more a result of the fact that people in government would rather fight wars than educate children. Fighting wars is soooooooooo much more macho. I mean, the Sec Def himself has started complaining that Congress appropriates him too much money. It's not going to change anything, but at least h e's begun saying it.

On the other hand, if every corporation that is even nominally an American company paid its taxes, the national debt and annual budget deficit would be considerably less alarming. Not to sound like a broken record or anything...

  5. I have suddenly developed a mystery pain in my left arm. UGH! On top of that, none of the changes I made to the Article on the NFB Krafters Division that I made last night took. ARG! Three of them are nothing, but the fourth took considerable thought, and I'm really not feeling equal to facing that again. However, I'd like to get the damned thing back to the woman I'm writing it for ASAP. so, it's time to cudgel the little gray cells.

  6. Never mind. I found an autosave copy. Phew! I am tired, though, not to have thought of looking for an autosave copy at once. Oh well, no harm done, I suppose.

  8. What does that mean, puddle? Is Phil holding my baby candles hostage? ;)

    I kid.

  9. I wish Phil commented over here. I really do miss his poetry. I get to see some of his and some of puddle's at puddle's blog, but I really liked his comments.

  10. He's commented before that he feels this kinship with you, since you and he are so often lighting candles for Ally at the same time. :)

  11. Well, I steal every poem he leaves on the blog. And he *is* a great commenter. We just lost another blogger today, who shall remain nameless, but who is feeling the weight of the negativity over there is just too much.

  13. It's official. The BP oil spill has now eclipsed the Exxon Valdez spill.

  18. "the oil has been flowing at a rate 2 1/2 to five times higher than what BP and the Coast Guard previously estimated"

Kinda weird that this was announced while I had this particular thread up, eh?
