Norquist poster to become a billboard in DC

Cool to see a blog-born, grassroots type idea being picked up like this. Check out this diary by highacidity at Daily Kos:

On Monday the 12th, I was contacted by Working Assets. They wanted to know if they could get permission to use my Norquist poster art on a billboard in the DC area.

They have put this project on the front page of their website, workingforchange.com and if any of you want to help make this happen, you can go there to contribute. There is an alternate layout of this design to fit a landscape aspect ratio, but the impact and the message is the same.

After we take care of the people who survived these dual catastrophes, this point needs to be hammered home with the American public... the second catastrophe, which was avoidable, is is the end result of what this administration is doing to our government... we can't let them get away with this.

What a Competent Government Would Have Done By TygrBright at Democratic Underground

There have been a number of good pieces on Democratic Underground lately. Here's one that just went up today:

Game Over by the Plaid Adder

Blaming is what you do when you have to explain why you showed up late to work. It's what happens when your mother finds the broken lamp and wants to know who was playing ball in the house. You blame people for not using their turn signals properly, or for causing the toilet to back up, or for dumping you for someone else. You blame people for something that you suspect you might have responsibility for; or for something that is a mildly annoying minor problem. You can't even say 'blame game' without sounding like a child. "Blame game, blame game, let's play the blame game! La la la la la la!"

OH-15 - Mark Losey And The DFA Vote by Losey Campaign Staff (on MyDD)

As you have already heard, DFA is holding an online vote to determine which congressional candidate will receive their first DFA-List endorsement of 2006.

We ask that you consider voting for Mark Losey as he runs to unseat high ranking Republican Deborah Pryce
Given her ties with Tom DeLay, Deb Pryce is the best congressperson Texas ever had. Ohioans need representation that restores trust, accountability and responsibility to the Congress.

Please help us in this fight.

  1. OMG I thought that was a brilliant piece of art. I'll definitely have to look at it around DC--I wonder where it's going to go?

I know the Metro system sells advertising. *That* would be cool to see it in metro stations around town.

Dems Propose Tax Refunds for Katrina Victims
    by DavidNYC
    Wed Sep 14th, 2005 at 16:43:10 PDT

While the Republicans are busy trying to find a way to pass their abhorrent bill to repeal the estate tax, Democrats on Capitol Hill are actually trying to propose some serious - and necessary - tax relief for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Congressman Rahm Emanuel, the chair of the DCCC, and Sen. Barack Obama (both of Illinois), are sponsoring the "Hurricane Katrina Accelerated Tax Refund Act":

This bill would immediately accelerate the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit, and applicable education incentives. By taking these steps, we can deliver resources on a fast-track basis to families that have worked hard, paid taxes and earned these tax benefits, all the while stimulating local economies. These Americans who have lost so much should receive their refunds now rather than later. There is precedent for fast-tracking tax refunds during times of crisis. As you know, in the wake of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Congress passed legislation to fast-track Child Tax Credit refunds. (click my name)

  3. I posted this on BFA earlier, but don't know if anyone noticed it. At this point, with our resident Republican and his missus all over the new thread, I don't see much point in posting anything else over there tonight.

Bush: "I think I may need a bathroom break?

U.S. President George W. Bush writes a note to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during a Security Council meeting at the 2005 World Summit and 60th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York September 14, 2005. World leaders are exploring ways to revitalize the United Nations at a summit on Wednesday but their blueprint falls short of Secretary-General Kofi Annan's vision of freedom from want, persecution and war.

Sensenbrenner to Katrina Victims: Drop Dead, Redux

The chairman of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee said on Tuesday he had no intention of reopening a sweeping bankruptcy law passed by Congress earlier this year, despite proposals to exempt Hurricane Katrina victims from some of its provisions.

The new, more stringent bankruptcy law will not harm people left "down and out" by the storm, Wisconsin Republican Rep. James Sensenbrenner said.

He said he would not hold a hearing in his committee on a bill by the panel's ranking Democrat, Michigan Rep. John Conyers, and 31 other Democrats who want to exempt Hurricane Katrina victims from parts of the new bankruptcy law. A chairman's decision not to hold a hearing usually prevents a House bill from advancing.

  5. I am especially saddened by this one.

    Texas executes Frances Newton(click)

There have been front page diaries on the main liberal blogs about this for the past couple days. Here is one of them:

We Have One Day to Save Her (UPDATE)

"Her name is Frances Newton. She is poor, black and living on death row in a Texas State Prison. She is scheduled to die tomorrow, September 14, 2005."

She very well may have been innocent, but I guess the point is moot now.

  6. What does it say about me that I have already seen all the articles and posts that Renee referenced. Come to think about it, what does it say about Renee?

I think it says that we are both really well informed. ;-)

  9. That's really strange, Renee. You were able to post a little while ago. Do you think it has anything to do with that "shadyblog" thingy?

  12. On the front page of My Left Wing

The man pictured above, being carried from his home SIXTEEN DAYS after the hurricane hit, is Edgar Hollingsworth. He was found by the National Guard, naked and emaciated on his couch in New Orleans.

The full story is at the OCRegister, but here's the part that fucking INFURIATES me:

In the past few days, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has ordered searchers not to break into homes. They are supposed to look in through a window and knock on the door. If no one cries out for help, they are supposed to move on. If they see a body, they are supposed to log the address and move on.

  13. Y'know I never understood how impersonators could take someone else's blog name...

I was saddened to hear that justice was miscarried in Texas tonight. Culture of life and all that I suppose.

Last week, Perry signed a bill in which doctors who perform illegal abortions in Texas could be prosecuted for capital murder and face a death sentence. How's that for unintended consequences?

  14. Hi Jo--welcome. You definitely do want to write down whatever login you use, because it *can* end up being something really obscure after you try a lot of things. But then you can choose a "display name", and that's what will show.

I wrote to Perry on behalf of Frances. This is so very sad...

I also posted "Over There" about Senselessbrenner. What a heartless SOB.

Renee, please send the info about FEMA passing over people who are possibly still alive to Keith. This has to get into the MSN and Keith might do it.

The question is: Do we use only 10% of our brains?

Let me state this very clearly:

There is no scientific evidence to suggest that we use only 10% of our brains.

In other words, the statement, "We use only 10% of our brains" is false; it's a myth. We use all of our brain. Let's look at the possible origins of this myth and the evidence that we use all of our brain.

"Now I really want all of us around the state to come together and be able to speak with a common voice about the future of our communities and of Ohio."

I am peripherally aware of a number of "turn Ohio blue" focused blogs. I haven't spent a lot of time on them, because there are only so many hours in a day, but I'd be happy to help you track them down for you if you like, so that you can link to them on your blog, open communication with the people who run them, or whatever you'd like to do.

    More later. Good night.

  27. Hi friends,

Sounds like things are weird at bFA. Glad I don't indulge any more. The Shadow Blog's the blog for me.

Just stopped in before hitting the road to Dreamland to show off an autrosity perpetrated by a so called Democrat, a fairly high muckymuck in the Mass. Party hierarchy. The following e-mail was sent to a member of the Governor's Council. Keep in mind, our e-mail writer is a lawyer, ra, ra. Nobody ever said lawyers were well educated, or courteous.

    Sir,

I have read your letter many weeks ago. Your conclusions are

not supported by the facts and seem to fit only uour
    preconceived notions..

You are a member of teh DSC by virtue of your office,
through a decision made by the Charter Committee Chair and
Gen Counsel Mr Roosevelt. If you had any interest in the
Charter process you should have long ago contacts the CHair
and or anyone at theDSC .

I certainly hope, given the fact that you will be in Boston
tomorrow, that you take the time to attend the meeting and
gain a better understanding. I did notice that at the
meeting in Pittsfield , while the Chair and I were present,
you showed no interest in discussing your concerns.

Hope you care enough to be seen and heard tomorrow night
when we have set aside time out of our busy schedules to
address the false accusations that you and others have fostered.

    Sincerely,

    Robert Crowley LeBlanc Esq.
