  2. Coffee dripping; reported temperature 48F, house cool enough that I turned the heater on for a bit to take the chill off. Still dark outside.

We have enough insulation and double paned windows that we don’t need the heat on until it gets down close to 30-35°F.
      Ironic, isn’t it?

  3. Bob Taft endorses Sherrod Brown. [Click] Taft is a storied name in Ohio, and thus in US politics.

  4. Election Day has irreversibly changed [Click] “in the year 2000, only 24 states offered citizens the ability to vote before Election Day. In 2024, 47 states do so . . . In 2020, 60% of Democrats reported voting by mail, compared to 32% of Republicans” I wouldn’t mind living to see the National Popular Vote Compact approved.

      Same here!
Vermont began mailing a ballot to every person in 2020 and voter participation went up significantly!

    1. From the comments:
This reminds me of an old Texas Aggie joke. Two aggies were buying watermelons in Texas for 25¢ each and selling them in Oklahoma for 25¢. When they realized they weren't making any money they went to the Texas A&M business professor and asked him what they should do. The professor looked at them and said, "You need a bigger truck".

  6. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina was on Meet the Press this morning, acting like a typical Republican. He repeated refused to answer moderator Kristen Welker's questions, interrupted her constantly, and talked over her when he wasn't doing that. Graham's behavior was mild compared to some of the worse repos, including my favorite, Jim Jordan. Arrogant and misoganistic. -- nordy
