(21 ~ THREE WEEKS!) J O B S

  1. So, we're having second thoughts about Spinnaker-kitty having surgery. We may have found a second tumor site, which would (as I read it) indicate Stage 4. There is no guarantee that the tumor(s) could be removed with clear margins. So it's a quality of life vs quantity of life decision. If only she could understand...but she can't. She is currently not in pain at all and is very happy with life. Surgery with two weeks of wearing a cone would be traumatic, and might not extend her life by a lot. In fact, surgery might spread the cancer cells, and even with clear margins the tumor could still grow back. And Spinnaker might never feel safe or trusting again. SIGH. Maybe we just have to come to terms with the reality that our beloved pet isn't going to live forever, and do what we can to make her life fun and loving, until the tumor(s) invade that bliss too much...?

    1. Might it work well to adopt another kitten before she moves on, to take her place?

    2. Alan, I know you mean well with the suggestion that listener get another kitty. In my experience, losing a cat involves a mourning period, just like with any other loss. It's better to complete dealing with the loss before making an emotional commitment to another pet. My .02. -- nordy

    3. Definitely no kittens for me. You are forgetting that last year I was diagnosed with an allergy to cat dander. But the larger concern for the time we're in is that bringing another pet into the house would only serve to stress out our two cats. Remember, they have been indoor cats, not interacting with other felines. A kitten would be regarded as an intruder, and the stress on all of us would be most unfortunate. In addition, even before my diagnosis, we had decided not to take on any other pets, going forward, since we might not outlive them and anyway we'd appreciate the freedom to travel a little at some point.

    5. My suggestion was just a passing idea; I had forgotten about your dander problem.

  3. The Human Ape ~ Origins of the Genus Homo [Click] Genus Australopithecus is the ancestor of Homo. It is not clear at which point genus Homo arose, in no small part because even substantial skull fragments are rare, let alone skeletal bones. Homo has more mobile thumb and pinkie finger as well. Some early variety of Homo evidently made the first stone tools.

  7. Trump emphasizes hypermasculinity as he and Harris pursue male voters
(AP) In the final weeks before the Nov. 5 election
the Republican nominee is amping up his hypermasculine tone and support of traditional gender roles, a reflection of the surgical campaign-within-a-campaign for the votes of men in a showdown with Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris. But where Harris is deploying “dudes” who use bro-ey language and occasional scolding to boost her support particularly among Black and Hispanic males, Trump’s camp is meeting men in alpha-male terms, often with crude and demeaning language. -- nordy

  8. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration has warned Israel that it must increase the amount of humanitarian aid it is allowing into Gaza within the next 30 days or it could risk losing access to U.S. weapons funding.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned their Israeli counterparts in a letter dated Sunday that the changes must occur. -- nordy

  9. A few minutes ago I had a phone call from "Freedom Forever Corporation," which I assumed was some sort of political advocacy group. Looked it up online, and it proved to be a solar panel installation outfit.
