Labour on Track for Biggest Majority Since 1832
July 4, 2024 By Taegan Goddard

“Labour is on track to win the largest majority of any party in modern history, a major poll has suggested, as Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer made their final appeals for support,” the Times of London reports.
“As voters go to the polls on Thursday, the last YouGov survey of the campaign found that Labour was on track for a 212-seat majority, with the Conservatives reduced to just 102 MPs.”

    2. I like the sound of that. It's the kind of majority we need in our House!

    3. Yeeeahhhh, may this be just the beginning of the downfall of conservatism around the world!

  2. Noon here, and it's plenty hot on the south side of our house. The grocery store/supermarket was mobbed, but all the cash registers were staffed and we got through in a reasonable length of time. We evidently have low (but not dangerously low) pressure in a tire, but checking that can wait-- the tire repair shop certainly is closed today.

  5. We went for a sail with friends, on the 4th. It was a good sail, though a bit hotter than optimal. While out there we saw a number of police boats, some with red diver flags...because they're still searching to recover the body of a 37 year old man who is presumed drowned as of the morning of the 3rd. He had been out in an inflatable boat with his two children, while they swam. But his daughter began to struggle in the water, so he jumped in and got her back into the boat. However, he didn't make it back into the boat. I don't know the ages of the children, but my heart is broken for them, especially the daughter he rescued. Wind was gusting into the 20s yesterday, which made for choppy water. So sad. They will resume the search again tomorrow morning.

    1. Just want to add that some folks in a sailboat helped the children and brought them to shore. That was so good to hear. I love the mariners ethic that anyone on the water in need gets immediate assistance, unquestioningly.

    3. I regret using that expression; it is flippant. But if one does not help others, how can s/he expect help from others in his or her hour of need? It sounds like none of them were wearing life jackets. Growing up on the edge of the ocean, I learned that there was no need to fear it, but it had to be treated with great respect.
