listener: My town (Jericho) is pentagon shaped and just a bit to the east of Burlington. We will have Totality for 3 minutes and 9 seconds. Susan will also experience Totality! Renee and Demetrius are close to the Totality area too.

  1. According to the map on the weather report, totality will be at 3:13 PM EDT in Cleveland, and 3:26 PM in Burlington.

    1. Now obsolete punishments would seem appropriate; chain gangs breaking stones into gravel comes to mind.

  5. It seems that as of January, 2024 The Nation has become a monthly. I'm currently reading the January issue. Here's Calvin Trillon's limerick for the month:

Can someone please call Donald's bluff and bestow this great honor on the disgraced ex-president already?

    1. I didn't bestir myself to get a good view, but Sis said she could see that the shadows were wrong, and that it was interesting and eerie how the day was sunny and dark at the same time.

  12. The Family came in waves, 15 of us in all. It will take them many hours to get home as the droves of tourists head out together. Traffic on the interstate is going 11mph...!

And it was all well worth it!!!

I've experienced several partial eclipses but that's nothing compared with Totality! It is beyond words. Dark, the temperature drops 10 degrees... here, the Moon covered the Sun COMPLETELY (no annular ring of fire), then at last a glow appears around the edge of the entire Moon, and you realise that the red dot near the bottom of the Moon is actually a solar flare!

We had 3 minutes and 9 seconds to enjoy viewing this amazing spectacle without needing eclipse glasses! Then the Diamond effect came back as eclipse glasses again became mandatory. And! Daughter, who had to be in Switzerland on business was able to Zoom in to the party, and during Totality we were able to turn the computer so she could see it too!

I got it all with my super nice camera! Photos will post on our very next thread!!

    1. Outstanding! (Except for the interstate traffic, which sounds like a good reason to not head out until the next morning.)

They would have loved that, but the kids had already missed a day of school to be here, and the adults have to work.
