Swedish home with cold war bunker attracts buyers as Russia fears rise [Click] “Underground building complete with bar and own power plant makes waves on property market amid Putin’s threats” In another note about Swedish war apprehension, I read a comment that Sweden hasn’t had a war in five hundred years.

    1. But they do have a significant arms industry--- first rate fighter aircraft, for instance. And I remember a tank they were developing but discontinued for lack of interest among potential buyers. It had no turret, and the gun was fixed in place; it was aimed by quickly turning the tank and tipping it up and down. The YouTube videos are amazing.

    3. When they say "500 years" they probably mean on Swedish soil. Swedish troops under Gustavus Adolphus were involved in the 30 Years War (1600s) but the fighting was in Germany.

    4. That's about four or five hundred years ago; I also figured that was what they meant, but was too lazy to look it up.

    1. Yes indeed. Probably one of those undocumented immigrants in Arizona, or son of same, from the Midwest. No visas, and many of them carriers of TB.

  4. UPDATE on dear puddle, from Cooter:

Her delirium continues. Eyes cracking open once in a awhile to see what's going on but then closing again to deal with the pain that surrounds her, struggling to breathe. She wants to get up, and with the help of the hospital bed I can get her into a sitting position with her legs hanging off the side. But then what is the next step? She just tips back over to the mattress. Her sisters are in town. It will be good to talk to family.

    1. I left him a message asking what can be done for her pain. Can in IV be given so she doesn't have to taste the medicine? So good that the family is there for them both.

    2. At least Penny's pain was controlled by medication. And she was lucid until the end.

    3. Morphine is wonderful medicine; given free access to it, people with very serious chronic pain will typically take only what they need, gradually working up to levels that would kill an ordinary person---- without intoxication. But if one can't communicate well, there is no good way to regulate it. Methadone is just about as effective, but has to be taken very, very carefully. Fentany patches sound like a great idea, but a heating pad, electric blanket, or fever can increase the rate at which they release their dose. Timed release analgesics, patches or pills, are very expensive. Glad to hear that family will be there for both puddle and Cooter.

    4. I'm glad for both of them. More family will be a great comfort and will somewhat lighten the heavy load both have carried to date.--Susan
