Yes, it means to bind, but with the context of reverence, not enslavement. Think sincere monastic vows more than "holy days of obligation." Having been receiving spiritual guidance for 31+ years and offering it for 23+ years, I can tell you that tomorrow a seeker's concept of God (not intending the word "gods") will be more and more open armed and open hearted, all-inclusive and at one with all the energy and power in the Universe.
