Welcome March!

Reflecting on the impatience of some with the Congessional Dems over the matter of impeachment, it occurs to me that whereas the GOP made a frontal assault (which is always a risky proposition) on Bill Clinton, the Dems under Nancy Pelosi are laying siege to DT. I remember reading Clausewitz on siege; if those laying siege can continue, there is no fortress that can resist.

    1. Pending an unexpectedly brutal Mueller report, I don't think we're going to see impeachment. This siege is going to end with DT's electoral defeat.

    3. I caught part of what Rep. Cummings said, and found it remarkable and moving. Thanks for the link to the article.

    4. One thing to remember is that impeachment would not get rid of DT. It is simply not believable that less than a third of the Senate would vote against conviction. Impeachment just creates a circus -- not a siege -- that does no one any good.

    1. During the 2016 Democratic primary, the Sanders campaign and supporters accused the Democratic National Committee of stacking the deck in favor of Clinton. Sanders claimed that leaked emails of then-DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz proved the "prejudice of the DNC" against him.

No 'accuse'! No 'claim'! This is indisputable fact!

In any case, why would a current candidate seek advice from a losing candidate, someone who lost the nomination once and then, on having it bestowed upon her, lost the general election that was supposed to be a cakewalk for her? What's she advising all those candidates on, how to lose? It's ridiculous! I'm disappointed in Warren. Thought she had more sense. But then, she couldn't straighten out her wealth tax and childcare proposals before presenting them; so, how bright and professional can she be?

Well, that would certainly be one way to control global warming. But I am not personally a fan of Manichaeism.

    1. I followed the links to the mooted Bernie announcement video and the actual one. The "professional" one was very slick, often too fast to follow, rather off-putting in places and frankly looked like what one would expect from an ad agency. Berie's seemed more genuine and more effective. It hit far more points than we were taught to cover in my college public speaking course, but due to long practice he was able to carry it off. The commercial version was a cheerleading show, Bernie was authentic. IMO.

    2. Thanks for the reviews and explanation. I ignore videos almost as rigidly as actual TV. Give me text, please.

  4. Wiped out: America's love of luxury toilet paper is destroying Canadian forests [Click] “Major brands’ refusal to use sustainable materials is having a devastating impact on forests and climate, new report says.” Oddly, this version of the story doesn’t name names (brand brands?), so here is one that does. [Click] I think I will look into this; with the abundance of recycled paper on the market, why use anything else? I can speak with authority about the soft paper being a medical necessity at times, but it often isn’t, certainly.

    2. Well, I tried. No copy of the poster in question will load to Blogger, even if I save it to my computer first. Probably just as well. Here's the info, though, with another link to try, to see what the fuss is about. The quotes are from the Washington Post article.

Here is the info about the poster in the West Virginia capitol building...

No poster will load, even if I save it to my home computer. But you can see it here:
      https://www.wsaz.com/content/news/Controversy-erupts-over-hate-speech-poster-on-display-in-WVa-Capitol-rotunda-506560451.html

"Friday was a day meant to celebrate the Republican Party in the West Virginia Capitol. But a poster connecting a Muslim congresswoman to the 9/11 terrorist attacks led to heated emotions, caused the resignation of at least one staff member and left another reportedly injured when things got physical as the altercation spilled into the chamber of the West Virginia House of Delegates.

"The poster, at a table in the Capitol’s rotunda, featured an image of freshmen Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) underneath one of the New York’s twin towers burning.
      ...

"Omar, one of the first two Muslim congresswoman ever elected, has been the target of Islamophobic smears since she took office this year.

"It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the poster, which was displayed on a day of events called “WVGOP Day” and sponsored by the state Republican Party.

"Mike Pushkin, a Democratic member of the House of Delegates, told The Washington Post that he was in a morning committee meeting when someone sent him a picture of the poster.

“I said, ‘What does she have to do with 9/11?’ ” he said. “It was Islamophobic. I thought it was racist and it was wrong.”
