    Elizabeth Warren Releases DNA Test
October 15, 2018 at 6:43 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) “has released a DNA test that provides ‘strong evidence’ she had a Native American in her family tree dating back 6 to 10 generations, an unprecedented move by one of the top possible contenders for the 2020 Democratic nomination for president,” the Boston Globe reports.

“Warren, whose claims to Native American blood have been mocked by President Trump and other Republicans, provided the test results to the Globe on Sunday in an effort to defuse questions about her ancestry that have persisted for years. She planned an elaborate rollout Monday of the results as she aimed for widespread attention.”

“The analysis of Warren’s DNA was done by Carlos D. Bustamante, a Stanford University professor and expert in the field who won a 2010 MacArthur fellowship, also known as a genius grant, for his work on tracking population migration via DNA analysis.”

    1. So what? I have at least one great-great-great grandparent who was Native American. No big deal. Most people whose ancestors cam to this continent more than a century ago have Native American ancestry.

Is the Trump family such recent immigrants that he doesn't have Native American ancestry?

    2. I probably should have said a century and a half.

    3. She released it because he pretty much called her a liar and has used "Pocahontas" as an insult at every opportunity. No, he has no First Nation blood. His ancestors all came from Germany and Scotland.

    4. Anecdotally the Thompsons, the Texas side of my family who come of pioneer stock, have some Native American blood, and perhaps some African American as well. I have no proof for either contention, but am pleased to think it might be true.

All four of my mother's grandparents came over from Ireland, three from the south (now the Republic) and one from Armagh ( now in Northern Ireland).

    5. For me, the takeaway in the story is that Warren is showing herself as willing to challenge DT and go toe to toe with him, even deliberately rattle his cage.

  2. I see that two Senators have endorsed Andrew Janz for my Representative: Diane Feinstein and Elizabeth Warren. No evidence that either Bernie or Kamala Harris having done so. That is significant to me.

    1. The account in the Washington Post [Click] on Sunday would seem to indicate that Warren has likely given Janz more than simply an endorsement.

  3. listener--in case you missed my question...does the tower at the Trinity Episcopal Church have a carillon (or was it intended to)? I am just guessing it might be so because of its size. [Note: if 23 bells or more = carillon; if fewer than 23 = chime.]
