    1. Be they red or blue! And if I am not mistaken, in Vermont there is only one congressional representative, so s/he must run a campaign on the same scale as a US Senator--very unusual.

    2. And governor too, for that matter. The polar opposite would be Los Angeles, where a seat on the county board of supervisors is a step UP from US Representative because it represents far more people.

  2. A thought I had today just came back to me. Bernie has filled the same role as Senator that Huey Long did during FDR's administration--forced the political discussion farther to the left than the President wished or intended. That is no small accomplishment.

  3. How Tom Steyer Built the Biggest Political Machine You’ve Never Heard Of [Click] Interesting.

Alan, not only have I heard of Tom Stayer's organization, I've been a member pretty much since its inception.

So, some Dems in Congress sent a letter to DT inquiring about his financial ties to Saudi Arabia.

This should be exposed (should have been exposed before the election!), but for the Dems to bring it up right now seems short sighted. Why play your hand that can rile up DT's base ahead of the election? Why not wait until after the election and go at it full tilt?

Listener, because they're stupid, that's why. There isn't a congressional Democrat, with the possible exception of Elizabeth Warren and Tammy Duckworth, who could so much as screw in a light bulb. They're just as stupid as the Republicans. The only difference is, they're slightly less venal and very slightly less corrupt.

Besides, they don't really want to win the election. That is to say, they don't want *real Democrats*, Progressives, Social Democrats and the like, to win and displace their comfortable, corporate Democrat/Republican Lite arsses.

All five hundred and thirty-five of the rats should be turned out so the capitol can be fumigated and we can start again.

  6. On the way to the hardware store around noon today, I saw that the big Andrew Janz sign on the main thoroughfare passing near our place had been torn down. When I got back home I grabbed some zip ties and a right-thinking (and voting) neighbor (there are few hereabouts) and we cleaned the sign (roughly) and put it up again. The zip ties had been cut. I sent a note about it to Janz's campaign, resulting in a thank you e-mail, then a request to call Janz's sign guy, which I did just now. He thanked me profusely, and said it was the first time anyone had put a sign back up. We had a nice chat.

    1. Oh, and he told me that when someone has voted, their phone number is automatically deleted from the phone bank list, so time and effort won't wasted calling them after that.
