P.S.: Smoke getting worse. We skipped this morning’s walk. I did some low-impact gardening (mostly spraying grass killer), then came inside when my lungs were becoming irritated. When I started around 10 AM visibility was maybe five miles; by noon three, now (2PM), more like two.

  2. ☀️ It is H.O.T.. ☀️
We hit 95F today, and the record as 93F. Historical high is 80F and low is 60F so the historical average is 70F. Today? High of 95F, low of 75F and average of 85F. And the humidity is 63% and rising. =Bleh!=

    1. That is exceedingly R.U.D.E! I remember when I was a kid we had a dehumidifier in the living room; although that was in a cool climate, surely it would work in hot conditions too! It was like a little refrigerator (it could double as a small table); once or maybe twice a day we would empty the sort of slip-in, slip-out container that collected the condensate. (I checked just now and they are still available.)

    1. Me too! It helps a little. It drops the temp in the house as much as 10 degrees. But we can use it in one room only and it gets cooler than that.

Alan, the A/C unit we got is also an efficient dehumidifier. It actually uses the collected moisture in its cooling process, so it is rare that one needs to empty it out.

  4. What puddle said!

Gates Begins Testimony Against ‘Brilliant’ Ex-Boss Manafort [Click] One hour today, estimated three more to come. If my experience is any indicator, that means at least another four hours.

Smoke has thinned a bit, but we will refrain from walking this evening.

  5. Meine Heimat! [Click] I am unquestionably a native citizen of Cascadia, having been born in the Eel River watershed; and I am firmly of the opinion that the area where I grew up should be considered part of Cascadia as well.
