74 Wildfires Burning in Western States...!!!
That photo is just a sweet bonfire by the lake. The fires in the west are not so pretty! Have a look:

I haven't exactly seen such fires up close and personal, but the smoke? Oh, yes. I was at the 2015 World Science Fiction Convention in Spokane, which was declared a national disaster area at precisely that time due to the wildfires and the resulting smoke. Extra shuttles were put on so people wouldn't have to walk to their hotels and nose-mouth coverings were in short supply.
ReplyDeleteAir quality obviously better today, less smoke and lower temperature. That modified Boeing 747 has been put to work here dumping fire retardant. Six fires burning in the nearby mountains. No hurricanes, though.
