  1. Just talked to Thankful--her dad died last night, a little past seven. She's sad, but I think a bit relieved, too. And exhausted. Wake, Tuesday night, Mass, Wednesday morning.

Sweet guy, and great dad. Met him and her mom when I was there, after Edwin's death, for Thanksgiving.

    1. Sorry to hear that, puddle. Thankful was so good to put together the Dean cookbook. I never met her, but I still use the cookbook she compiled for us.

    2. Thanks, puddle. She sent me an email today too, with links to his obituary and an article about him watching his last Cubs World Series! I'm so glad they WON and he got to see it!!

So sad for Thankful and especially her Mom. After 64 years of marriage she is sure to feel rather lost.
If you can think of anything we can do, send me a note. In fact, email me her address if you will, so I can send a card.

  2. http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/mentally-ill-president-trump

This was written by Jim Hightower and I agree with every word of it. An exerpt:

"We have a president who is detached from reality, careening from one mess to another. But who will say, the emperor has no clothes? He's so far gone that when he read his recent address to Congress straight off the teleprompter, without his usual pugnacious ranting, Republican enablers of his antics and even the media establishment he scorns applauded him for being "presidential."

Huh? The speech was a nasty wad of lies and right-wing nonsense. If the occasional appearance of sanity is all we ask of Trump, then his reign of insanity will be our fault. His loved ones and his party should intervene, for his sake and for America's. But they won't. Will we?"

    1. That says it.

I think we are intervening...every day. Postcards, marches, phone calls, journalism, late night spoofs, and more. We are letting the world know that DT does not speak for us, and "we're working on it."

    2. The more we can unsettle him, the better, I think. There are dangers to that approach, but the danger of not pushing him over the edge is probably greater. We want to make it obvious even to the GOP that he must be removed in accordance with the 25th Amendment [Click]. The Declaration of Independence has some worthwhile considerations applicable to the present circumstances:

",,,all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves..."

This [Click] Jack Ohman cartoon is on our wavelength...

  3. I left my iPhone at the post office today. In fact, I was able to verify that by using iCloud.com/find to Find My iPhone and it worked GREAT! Impressive app, that!! :-D

  4. I have a recipe in that cookbook, Susan. Maybe more than one, but at least my mother's skillet cookies.
