...still thinking about chocolate

  1. This is from Tuesday (still Tuesday here). Quoting from politicalwire.com rather than linking--my bad. But this isn't just the old drip, drip, drip; the tap has been opened. Hint to politicians: don't piss off the FBI, the CIA and the NSA.--Alan

Trump Aides Had Contacts with Russian Intelligence

    February 14, 2017By Taegan Goddard 262 Comments

“Phone records and intercepted calls show that members of Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election,” the New York Times reports.

“American law enforcement and intelligence agencies intercepted the communications around the same time that they were discovering evidence that Russia was trying to disrupt the presidential election by hacking into the Democratic National Committee… The intelligence agencies then sought to learn whether the Trump campaign was colluding with the Russians on the hacking or other efforts to influence the election.”

“The officials interviewed in recent weeks said that, so far, they had seen no evidence of such cooperation. But the intercepts alarmed American intelligence and law enforcement agencies, in part because of the amount of contact that was occurring while Mr. Trump was speaking glowingly about the Russian president, Vladimir V. Putin.”

CNN: “High-level advisers close to then-presidential nominee Donald Trump were in constant communication during the campaign with Russians known to US intelligence.”

  2. Good Lord. The political news about disorder, incompetence, infighting, and possible corruption in the Administration and Congress is at flood stage. There is too much at the places I glanced at (politicalwire.com, talkingpointsmemo.com, headlines at politico.com) to make links to. The central big issue is Trump's relationship to Russia. I smell a congressional investigation comparable to the Watergate hearings.

  3. Cheetolini and his merry band of fascists are effing up my mental health! Every time I sleep I dream of being a failure. Family comes for Thanksgiving. I only have a carton of eggs. I'm trying to make gravy and failing and it's now 5 a.m. and I've been trying all night long. My car won't start and when it does I can't get into the line of traffic, I"m in a store and the sky turns black and a huge storm comes up, a man tries to leave and I realize I'm leaning on the door unintentionally keeping him from getting out.

It may have something to do with the fact that when I go to the local meetings I feel that I have nothing to offer. Everybody is so into tech and I just can't do that. I've made phone calls to Congress, but I really don't believe they pay any attention. I've gathered my postcards for the #IdesofTrump. Fifteen years ago I had a lot more energy and I could do so much more and did. Now I just feel kind of useless.

    1. I agree with Alan, Susan. We NEED you!! Your verve schools mine!

I've had some bad dreams lately too. And we may feel a little helpless, but we aren't useless! Change is imminent. I read today that the Intelligence Community is about to "go nuclear" (Tweeted by an IC guy!) It could be what you're feeling is like transition is to birthing. You are very aware that we can't stay in THIS mode much longer...!!

  5. This Trump/Russia business looks to be even bigger than Watergate; it will need its own name, and I hope they don’t call it “-gate.” It is big enough to have a distinctive name, and naming scandals “-gate” has become hackneyed.

    1. By way of allusion to the “Dreyfus Affair” (which it might resemble in importance as it does in certain other respects), I submit

      "The Matrushka Affair"

Lots and lots of layers; Donald Trump on outside, and who knows who at the center? Implicates Russia(ns). Souvenir versions could be manufactured and sold with various central actors, or even mix-and-match versions--select one each of several alternatives for each layer except the outer one.
