Memorial of St. Nicholas

Known as 'the Wonder Worker,' St. Nicholas is the patron of children as well as sailors and travelers, among others. He may be of interest to Progressives for his wellll-known practice of the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy, the latter of which at least lie at the heart of the Progressive enterprise.

  1. Thanks for your concern for me, listener, but it is misplaced. No personal problems other than some extra work; I've been doing coroners' toxicology for forty years, and one naturally becomes accustomed to it. The folks in the Coroner's Office bear the brunt of the potentially upsetting work, for which I sincerely thank them. It seems they don't expect to find many more sets of remains, so that is good. I thought it sounded like there would be about twice as many victims, but they say it is still the worst loss of life in a structural fire in California since 1906.

Title [Click] “In an interview, the CNN commentator says dialogue is still possible—and that liberal elitism really did enable Trump.” Can’t say as I know the fellow, but he seems a good deal more thoughtful than many…

    1. On the face of it, I should certainly say Clinton and her pet DNC enabled Trump.

  3. It slipped my mind last night, but my mother said if the DNC chooses a black, specifically Kieth Ellison as chair, they're crazy. She further informed me that the reason they lost is that they paid too much attention to minorities and diversity.

Donno if that's dementia or good old fashioned stupidity; either way it's most alarming. I've always been way to the left of her, but till recently I thought she was reasonably intelligent and sensible. For some reason, though, she drank the HRC Kool Ade in a big way. Must have told you at the time that she was so pissed off at Clinton losingthe nomination to Obama, she swore she'd vote for McCain - even with that *thing* he had as a running mate! She eventually came around, but since the election she has been bad mouthing him again, claiming he didn't campaign hard enough for Clinton. She won't hear a word against Clinton. Clinton is perfect. And on and on. It's barf making! It also causes me to doubt her mental compentance, especially in combination with other accumulating small things. We're all worried about her, in fact, though her political misjudgment is only a factor for me.

Thanks for letting me vent! ♥

  4. I told Mah*Sweetie I would like to take down our American flag on January 20th and replace it with a Vermont flag.
But he says he doesn't want the Trumpets to think they own the flag and wants to keep it up.

    Thoughts?

    1. Frankly I would fly the flag upside down as a sign of distress.

    2. I can see both sides. Susan's solution is a good compromise and makes a great point. Though one wonders is Trumpsters understand enough about flag etiquette to know what the American flag flown upside down signifies. Any that saw it would probably tell you you were disrespecting the flag and Trump as well and beat you up.

  5. On Tuesday the 6th, I got word that an article I was asked to write on home schooling is going to be published. The theme is A Note to My Former Self, basically, what I wish I'd known when we started. Oak Meadow School (from whom we obtained our curricula in the early years) will most likely be publishing it on Wednesday the 7th. I'm tickled.

They even pay. And to think I've put them off since September. Silly me.

    2. And I continue to be pleased with those Pilot "disposable" fountain pens for everyday use when I can't sit down and write carefully (which at work is most of the time). They hold a LOT of ink, so rarely need to be refilled. They are cheap and sturdy. No problems with drying out. I use Noodler's Black Eel ink (Noodler's Bulletproof Black would be about the same) because it is indelible on paper once dried but easily washes off other things. (I think it binds to cellulose, so that would probably include cotton cloth.)

    3. I bought an iPad and accessories for my sweetie for Christmas; finally gave in and ordered what should be a very nice semi-vintage Pelikan fountain pen for my principal Xmas present. 25% off on the iPad, and I think I got the pen for about half the price it should have been.
