  2. The Google Trends search data for Bernie and HRC in Nevada have both been down this morning, which I take to mean that people have made up their minds, with the caucuses due to commence an hour and a quarter from now. The moving average has clearly favored Bernie for the past month, as well as yesterday. If the Google Trends data are equivalent to a poll, it looks good for Bernie--a clear win, although not a landslide. This is going to be very interesting.

  3. I spent about an hour today flyering for Bernie. Lot's of enthusiasm -- but this is Oak Park.

And on the way home I walked past out front yard and saw the foot-high stump of the pine tree. No sign of the tree itself. Obviously, wherever it went the Village has already taken care of it.

  4. I don't know how many people here get Hilary emails, but I wanted to pass along this:

    Friend --

Let's be honest: being outraised by huge margins is changing this race.

In Nevada, where voters are heading to the caucus today (!), the polls have tightened in part because Sanders has been able to raise more money than us, and has been able to get his word out. But the fundraising numbers the Sanders campaign boasts about aren't just impacting the polls in key states. Those numbers tell a story of a campaign made up of people who are all in for their candidate and are stepping up in a big way.

I know that this team is bigger and stronger than Bernie's -- you're the greatest. But I also know that more of his team has stepped up to own a piece of their success -- and I need everyone here to do the same. Even if you can only give $1, that dollar says that you are in this with Hillary. You’re ready to fight by her side to secure the nomination and protect the White House from the GOP.

Please step up today -- it would mean so much:

As a Bernie supporter, this makes me feel good.

  5. I saw she won by a whopping 4%. A commanding lead indeed. :P

At first I was very upset - madly pissed off if you want to know -but then I saw the margin of her win. While I do not like the trend, at the same time it seems to me only a deluded fool would fail to see the significance of these numbers. She is not winning in landslides. Then again, maybe she does understand, or at least some members of her campaign do. Take a gander at that letter Bill posted above.Does a possibly malicious heart good, that does.

  6. Then again I just had a horrible thought. You don't suppose she's trying to cast herself as the underdog? BLECK!

  7. Went out this morning to get my hair cut. Lovely, mild and sunny day today.

Oh, goodness, I keep forgetting to mention that Thursday a Bernie person came to the door. I wasn't around but Dad and Sis were waiting for the mattress delivery men and they saw him. Interesting the contrast in their impressions. Dad said he was an older guy, at which I looked at him askance. I figure someone eighty-two and a half has some nerve using "older" as a derogatory term. Anyway, he also described the volunteer as "seedy" and looking like a fellow traveler right out of the 1940s. Sis' assessment was much kinder. She said he was quiet, not at all pushy, and seemed rather shy. When I suggested that he might be a first-time volunteer she agreed that might well be the case. Now, it's odd. He asked for me and being told I couldn't come to the door, handed over a flyer and asked that it be given to me. Sis said he did not try to persuade her or Dad. The odd thing is I'm a known Bernie supporter. So why would I need a flyer? Surely the volunteer should have tried to engage the two people he saw, who were not known Bernie supporters. *shrug* He impressed them both more or less favorably, but he didn't win any converts and he basically wasted a flyer. Still, it was an interesting experience for Dad and Sis.

We received our absentee ballots today. Sis is recovering from outpatient surgery Friday to remove a lump in the breast so is still groggy and sore. So we agreed we'd do our ballots Sunday afternoon. Of course the silly little thing will cancel me out by voting for She Who Must Not Be Named, but that's all right. I'm confident Bernie will carry Massachusetts.

    1. Cat, first things first: I hope Sis has all good path lab reports. ♥

I'm thinking you are right that he was a first time volunteer and picked up on your Dad's disapproval, so found it wisest to mention you and provide a flier which they just might peruse. Clever in some ways!

Vote with conviction and know that I salute you!!!

  8. She spent the whole night visiting the workers in the casinos, thanking them and begging for votes. That's how nervous she was. Go Bernie!!

  10. Adding together putative elected delegates from Iowa, NH and Nevada, it looks like HRC and Bernie are either dead even or very close to it. And the delegates are truly putative, because those are estimated national convention delegates based on local delegates to higher state caucuses or conventions. So at this point no one knows who is actually ahead. In any event, Google Trends seems not to have been sufficiently predictive in this case; not far off, though. The very low turnouts for caucuses seems to be a good argument against them.

I find myself thinking that by "pragmatism" HRC means that we should now start bargaining away the string, just a little bit at a time, after having lost the entire salami one thin slice at a time.

Do excuse me, but I still think that something looks very strange about HRC's face. Hey, anyone can be caught in an odd expression--think of that chance photo of Wendell Willkie waving to the crowd and looking like a maniac, that may have lost the election for him. [Hmmmm...can't locate a copy online.] But this does not seem to be chance. Is it indeed plastic surgery and botox, making normal facial expressions impossible? Do others here see the same strangeness? Or is my imagination running amok?

  11. Cat--what listener said about the path lab report. It will probably take a couple of weeks, perhaps even more.

Bill, I second (or third?) the thanks to you for sharing the letter from "HRC."

Interesting story about the visitor, Cat.

Interesting discovery today. I lost the old tie I have long used in court (probably put it on top of the car and drove away). A good solid red color, good fabric, went well with just about anything. It was getting a bit shabby, so no big loss. Today I went shopping for a replacement; first to the smaller Macy's in town; they didn't have a large selection, and few or none that I should expect a well-to-do man to wear; then seemed mostly for young peacocks. No rep ties, maybe a very few that might technically be called Ivy League ties, not a single club tie, few solid colors. So I went to the larger Macy's, and it was more of the same--no shortage of ties I wouldn't be found dead wearing. But they didn't seem to have good quality shoes, suits or shirts either. So on the way home I stopped at an upscale men's clothing store (knowing full well the prices would be high) to see what they had. It was the same thing in better fabrics at higher prices--a very few arguably (but not classical) rep and ivy league ties, and not a single club tie; mostly they ran to fluorescent fever dream patterns that would be nearly impossible to match to the almost equally vivid shirts that made up most of their inventory. So I came home and selected a couple of ties from my inventory--one red with an understated diagonal pattern of hunting horns, and a dark blue one with a diagonal pattern of small white stars. Those should be OK with most anything, but a solid color is simpler to deal with. Maybe I will do a little looking around on line at snooty places like Brooks Brothers to see if they stock conventional ties.

  12. Hmmm....no club ties at Brooks Brothers, although they have quite a few nice looking solids, rep and ivy league ties. As well as quite a few that are far too flashy. Amazon doesn't know what a club tie is either. Hmmmm......is this further proof that I am a fossil?
