  2. Hmmmm... upon investigation I discover that there are two Saints Stephen: the martyr of Jerusalem, and about a thousand years later the Hungarian king. Hmmmmmm..... each has a feast day.... but the former's is 12/26 or 27, and the latter's August 20th. So this isn't about the Hungarian. Glad to have that cleared up. Little more than coffee for breakfast, and shortly off to see if there are some trousers left at the stores in my size.

  3. Happy Boxing Day or, more properly, Blessed Feast of St. Stephen.

So this is the proto-martyr. Glad we got that cleared up. Thanks, Alan, for always sorting such things out.

  4. No snow hereabouts, nor like to be any time soon, sad to say.

Finished The Moonstone early last week, finding it a really good read. Another puzzle with an ingenious solution. Then I finished up a volume of Louie L'Amour's short stories, Law of the Desert Born, that I'd started some weeks ago. Great stuff! Did a quick reread of a Dick Francis favorite, Enquiry that I'm writing a quiz on and then started and put aside Rob Roy. Have now just started The Bride of Lammermoor.

Had a quiet Christmas. Sis and I watched The Bishop's Wife Christmas Eve and The Bells of St. Mary's Christmas night, both movies I'd never seen before. That's the sort of thing I like, sweet, gentle stories that leave you feeling good. The Bells of St. Mary's was particularly delightful since Sr. Benedict is an intelligent, strong minded lady who more than holds her own with Fr. O'Malley .

    1. Come to find out, in the 1962-63 season, there was a television series based on Going My Way with gene Kelly as Fr. O'Mally. Dick York played his friend... Amazon had a nice writeup on it. I got it on DVD. It's amazing what they have on DVD.
