Hoping for Snow...

Christmas Fun by Sam Timm

  1. I don't know what Howard thinks about snow, but to this Chicagoan it seems an odd thing to hope for.

    1. Ah, well, Bill, I hail from the hometown of Wilson A. "Snowflake" Bentley, who developed the field of microphotography as he discovered that no two snowflakes are exactly alike. We here truly care about our snow. There are only two places in the world that get snowflakes like ours, due to their proximity between a certain size lake and mountain. The other is in northern Japan. The snowflakes here are perfect and unique. And when it has snowed, the landscape brightens beautifully. It's been dark too long. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! :-)

  2. Cat, didn't mean *I* was done with Downton, rather that Downton was done with the airwaves, lol! Last new episode showed on Christmas day.

  3. The closest we're scheduled to get to snow in the foreseeable future is freezing rain on Tuesday. Otherwise, much too warm.

  4. In fact, I've seen none of the last season. DVDs on order, due Jan 26.

    1. Season 5 is MUCH better than Season 4, IMNSHO.

    2. I've seen one through five, many times: looking forward to six. Truth is, I think year one was the best, and each following displays a slightly more bored Julian Fellowes

  6. Think I'm going to enjoy The Bride of Lammermoor Nice, leisurely pace, lots of interesting asides, in short a good book for long Winter mights.

  7. Fog and frost this morning; in the afternoon the sun came out and we got some yard work done (had to dress warmer than usual--long johns etc.). There was a good view of the mountains from our back yard; there was snow on the lower reaches, albeit not the foothills. I'd guess the snow line might be down to a thousand feet or so. The newspaper said three or four days ago that the snow is 119% of normal for date, and 37% of the April 1st average. Wouldn't mind if it kept it up... Saw the new Star Wars movie with Daughter*artist this evening; I saw the original in 1977, but haven't seen any of the intervening sequels. There was something that happened at the end that seemed to make no sense at all, but I suppose there was something in an earlier movie of the series that presaged it.

Think I'll get back to The Woman in White if a few minutes, then to bed. Wonderful to have a three-day weekend off, and with family to boot.

    1. Snow line reported at 2000 feet [Click] But what's a thousand among friends?

P.S.: I can hear the wind machines running in the citrus groves across the river.
