  1. Wow, Alan, what a lovely tree. Quite a hope for Spring for us beleaguered Northeasterners... she says, looking out the window at several inches of fresh snow.

I'd have to say Alan and his tulip tree are first.

  2. Alan, in the last HP book, Luna Lovegood and Neville Longbottom have become friends. I can't recall that it says anything further about her, but seems to me I came across somewhere that she eventually married, though I can't recall who. She did eventually find contentment though.

Piffle is a good word. Perhaps I ought to start dropping it into my conversation? *grin*

  3. Has global warming made wimps of us all? Four inches of snow predicted, so tonight's Disability Pride Parade committee meeting was postponed. Why when I was a kid ...

Well, not when I was a kid. But I well remember going to work with the temperature still below -20F.

    1. I think the onset of wimpiness predates wide recognition of global warming. It seems to have something to do with clothing manufacture, or lack ofthereof. Children don't wear snowsuits anymore. Adults don't wear warm, substantial winte coats and it seems like nobody wears snowboots. And do you remember rubbers and galoshes? I never had galoshes but I had rubbers, and my m other made me wear them every time it rained. i hated them, very hard to get on and off. But in later years I came to wish for a pair. Eminently practical invention. It still rains. People still go out in the rain. How come people don't still wear rubbers? Some fashion mavin must have determined that they are square and thus dispensable...like warm, sensible winter coats.

    2. Yes, I remember galoshes. I don't wear them any more because I always wear high-top athletic shoes for ankle support. Almost, if not quite, water-resistant enough that galoshes are not needed.

    1. Me too!

Going to have another snowstorm tomorrow. They're forecasting nine to fifteen inches. Now, that's a worthwhile snowstorm. And if it had happened in December or even January I would have been rather pleased about it. But February feels like it should be starting to be Spring.

    3. From your mouth to God's ear!

Current forecast here calling for six to ten inches of snow in Springfield. The hill towns and further into the Berkshires will be getting more, of course. I think six to ten inches ought to do nicely thank you. And then Spring, please!

  5. We're expecting 5-8" of the fluffy white stuff that made Snowflake Bentley a legend. It will be falling at the rate of up to an inch per hour. So we'll see whether I get to go to my first Watercolour class or not.

  6. Alan, I can almost feel the waxy smoothness of the petals on your Tulip Tree. It's so beautiful and reminds me that it's time for a lunch date with Mah*Sweetie inside the local Gardener's Supply store, where sandwiches are served in the Greenhouse!
