On and on...

  1. Howard's first, now that I deleted our first spam in years. . . .

Sweet, cool, cloudy autumn day coming up. Maybe some rain.

  2. I figured out how to get my Earthlink e-mail working on my Kindle "keyboard"; there was a compatibility problem with the e-mail mobile version. It's rather slow and cumbersome compared to a more powerful computer, but it will do very well in a pinch, and the free cell phone Internet access is just the ticket for me. The magnet for the catch in the $6.50 cover had come loose and was wandering around, but a syringe, needle and Elmer's glue fixed that.

Yay! All I had to do was ask--the draft schedule for the hospital lab is up, and my schedule has been changed from a 40-hour shift starting at midnight every other weekend to a 32-hour shift starting at 8:00 AM. That should be much easier physically. Now if Social Security will just finish processing Miyoko's spouse's retirement benefits, all will be ducky. We began the application process in early June, and the first payment is due the fourth week of this month. I suppose the workers are overwhelmed with disability and retirement benefits applications secondary to the "recession," and that they want to do their best to get things right on the first try.

Cooler weather here--in the 80's. Nice.

  3. The new and improved hospital lab schedule begins in November (so one more long shift), and it looks like I will get both Thanksgiving and Xmas weekends plus New Year's Eve and New Year's off this year! Zounds!

  4. New to me politics web site (link is specifically for California, but also other states):

    Independent Voter Network

It might or might not prove worthwhile.

  5. I have formed the opinion that I should read "On The Road." It was popular when I was young, and cursory investigation confirms the idea that it probably had a considerable influence on me.

  10. Absolutely incredible, absolutely ancient, temple complex discovered at the Ness of Brogar in Orkney; the archaeologists had assumed it was a natural hill, a glacial morraine:

  11. Thanks, Alan! So glad to hear of your schedule!!

Sorry I've been AWOL. We are mourning another death...an unexpected one...of an old friend, aged 71. Heading to NH for the calling hours tomorrow.

Thanks for the cleanup in aisle 1, puddle.
