  1. Ayup, Howard remains in first place hereabouts. And lots of places...

listener--we have one persimmon tree that is suffering a bit, but that's all. Next year I will have to see about getting it some more water on a regular basis. This isn't its year to bear fruit, ennyhoo. The bare root peaches we planted to replace the old ones seem to be doing OK.

puddle--I think I would vote for GMO labels on food (also hormone labels) for no other reason than to give the big business types who have are trying so desperately to avoid market forces the vapors. But when it arrives, I *will* actually read the text of the proposal. I will also check out the voting recommendations of the California Green Party, see what the League of Women Voters has to say. I always pay attention to who is writing the arguments. Not sure when the voting materials are supposed to show up, but it can't be long now. I expect I will vote for every proposition increasing taxes--but we will see.

Once again, the Party's official positions on such things are pretty darn close to mine.

  3. Oh, dear, lol! The news from Lala Land: The race is tightening; and, wait for it: the polls are trending towards Romney. . . . (jabba the rush)

    For Balance, Nate Silver today:

If you look at our estimate of Mitt Romney’s chances of winning the Electoral College, which are about 15 percent right now in the FiveThirtyEight forecast, the touchdown analogy works best: Mr. Romney has about as much chance of winning as an N.F.L. team does when it trails by a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
