Same waterfall on August 28th last year during Irene:

  1. Howard is still first, and floods are absolutely *last*. That is one scary photo. I've been that close to that kind of flood. It'll get your heart thumpin' alright!

  4. So, the political season must be heating up. Know how I can tell? I've got an almost overwhelming urge to hide my dad's posts from my Facebook page. Haven't done so yet, but I suspect it's only a matter of time.

  5. Hi guys.

Renee, good thing my dad isn't on Facebook, or he and I would perpetually have to hide one another's posts. We don't talk about politics. After all, we have to live together. 8)

  6. Heard a bit about Grover Norquist on 60 Minutes tonight. He said he got the idea for his no taxes under any circumstances pledge when he was twelve. No kidding! It sounds like the idea of a twelve-year-old. Hello! There is such a thing as growing up! Allen Simpson thinks Norquist is an idiot or rather irrelevant, which speaks volumes.

  7. Grandad to VT*Grand: Did you like your floaty board that Auntie gave you for an early birthday present?
VT*Grand: (brightening right up): Yeah!! I did!!
Grandad: Did you know that Auntie is also your Godmother?
    VT*Grand: Mmm, hmmm!
Grandad: A Godmother is kind of like having an extra mother, not your real mother but a special mother.
    VT*Grand: Yeah, a *Fairy* Godmother!
    Grandad: Exactly!

  8. VT*Grand says that when she grows up and has twins named Grace and Carl, we can come and visit them. She plans to call them Gracie and Carlie. She turns 5 on Saturday. :-)

VT*Grand also says that one time she ate ice cream and instead of it going into her stomach it went into her arm and made her booboo feel better.

    1. My dear friend who has breast cancer responded:

"I'm going to get me some ice cream!"

  9. Back from the weekend at the hospital; finally (I think) figured out how to soften up the offending muscles in my left leg withouot hurting myself. Might not need dope to sleep tonight. The ER was very busy both Saturday and Sunday (which meant the lab was too), but not at night (very nice for me).

Re current culture wars stuff in politics, the thesis of this column makes sense to me:

  10. Map of states that protect paternity rights of rapists. [vide previous thread]. Could there be a better argument for terminating a pregnancy? That is beyond barbaric.

    1. beyond barbaric.

Indeed. One begins to think of Republicans as monsters. . . .

    2. I've begun to think of all of them as latent homosexuals in deep denial and hating women with a venom that amazes me. Maybe if they get rid of all the females they'll be justified in having sex with other males. I wish they'd skip the "getting rid of females" part and go straight to the gay clubs. We'd *all* be happier!
