  2. Alan, don't miss my note to you at the bottom of the last thread. :-)

  3. Glad you caught that listener, or I would have missed it altogether, lol!

I'd been thinking about him (Rumi) because the Imam of the new "mosque" in lower Manhattan is a Sufi. Rumor has it that they're pulling out. If so, I'm sorry for them, but more sorry for this country.

  4. listener--saw the notes. Thanks, and glad to hear hubby doesn't seem to have a serious problem.

puddle--what you said. I remember someone making the observation that the "problem religion" of the 21st century would be Christianity, but I think Stupidity is leading the pack so far. The Salafi are as hostile to Sufism as they are to most anything. The loonies here evidently don't know enough to be able to apply the maxim that the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Ultimately there is a limit to how much Sufiism I can absorb at one go, because I have (due to my experience and conditioning) a bit of a psychological problem with mysticism expressed in terms of a patently dualistic theology; but the meaning is as fine and (to me, at least) as obvious as can be. (I remember seeing a dandy movie about Sufi Sam many years ago; wish I could see it again.)

The lunatic fringe in the U.S. is certainly feeling its oats these days.

Second coming of the iMac is tomorrow...
Asked a couple of young single fellows from the lab to help me move out the old computer desk, assemble and install the new one, on Thursday in exchange for dinner. (Will give them some modest liquid refreshment to take home with them as well.) I have the new computer desk assembled as much as I can, but there are two pieces that are too heavy for Miyoko and me to manage. Will borrow a couple of dollies from the lab to help move out the old desk.

  6. Oh, my! The teeniest tiniest storm just had a tantrum on my head, lol! Maybe a whole mile wide, and the onliest one in the area. Kind of like a three year old shrieking fit. Mom Nature wanting to keep me entertained.

  9. They're pulling out of the community center project? Oh, no! Letting the poisonous, hate mongering Right Wing bigots win? That's very distressing.
