    Howard Dean is first.

Rod Blagojevich ...? Well, he's guilty on at least one count -- lying to the FBI, the count that didn't require him to actually do anything but open his mouth. He told them he niether knew nor wanted to know who contributed to his campaign, and anyone who listened to the tapes could tell that wasn't true. The jury couldn't agree on any of the other 23 counts against him or the four counts against his brother. A re-trial is promised.

Iincidentally, we now have a semi-official explanation for why Blagojevich didn't take the stand: As his lawyers prepared him for corss-examination, it became obvious to everyone including Rod himself that there was no way he could keep from running his mouth about things he should leave alone.

The Disability Pride Parade committee went out for our celebration dinner tonight. The venue was Ben Pao, an Asian restaurant. After a selection of appetizers I had Spicy Dragon Noodles (cherry-chili sauce) with mushrooms and tofu. Good anad rather different, although the cherry flavor was not prominent. Then I had lemon-ginger cheesecake for dessert. So much for my diet, although I can convince myself that the few extra pounds will come off quickly and I have so far been losing pretty much on schedule without much effort.

  3. Bill, they say when dieting it is important to allow yourself a little fun now and then so that you don't get to feeling deprived and give up too easily. If you can plan in some fun, it makes it easier to kowtow to the diet the rest of the time. Of course, it's important to know how much allowance is too much, overall. Sounds like you have a good handle on it.

  4. Chilly day. And rainy. We just broke the 60º marker about an hour ago. Now sitting at 61º ~~ Believe me, I could live with this forever!!

  5. Funny thing about dieting, lol! I'm a *very* good dieter -- once lost 40 pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas. . . . But nothing ever held. A year or two later, I'd be back where I was, plus some. Nothing ever worked long term for me until I quit dieting, and had a way of life change. Lost 40 lbs on Atkins in a couple of years, went on hold for a couple of years, and have lost another 35 since. This is eight years we're talking about. And lotsa "vacations" ~~ but I like the *trend*. And my doctor loves the numbers. . . .

Yes, that's the problem with so many people's diets: They may lose a lot of weight quickly, but that doesn't give them any clue about how to keep the weight off. My goal is to lose about 2 pounds a month. That requires such minor changes -- no snacks or desserts unless I'm truly hungry -- that I hardly notice the diet. Which means there isn't a great change when I decide I've reached my target weight. Most of my weight gain over the past couple of years has come in associate with trips where I ended up eating over-large restaurant meals.
