Happy birthday, Tai Shan!

Our favorite panda baby turns one year old today!

We don't officially have a blog mascot here at Howard-Empowered People, but I think Tai Shan is at least our *unofficial* mascot. SusanD wrote about him in Pandas and Puppies and Kittens, Oh My! way back on May 9, and before that we talked about him a lot in the comments, reporting on the cute things we'd seen him doing on the National Zoo's "Panda-Cam".

I know there's all sorts of heavy, depressing stuff we could be talking about, and all sorts of activism that must be done. but just for the moment I'm going to embrace the cuteness, succumb to the "Awwww!" factor, and say Happy Birthday to this adorable 56-pound toddler!
