I'm getting along all right, considering the news, about which I remain somewhat hopeful. Weather is pretty nice, we are making progress with gardening, and getting ready to pay property taxes (which are not particularly burdensome thanks to California's Proposition 13 [Click]) and income taxes (which we handed over to a professional tax preparer when I retired--- they were getting too complicated), which will probably result in a nice refund. We hired a swimming pool maintenance company--- it had clearly become too much for me. For reasons that are unclear I lately developed a lot of sore muscles, but massage is definitely helping. A long time ago we bought an expensive electric massaging table/bed for Miyoko (who injured her back in an industrial accident a long time ago), and it was money well spent; much better than the massage chairs one now sees in the stores, I think. She gives me some muscle torture too. I have made some progress with (long neglected) lawn sprinkler repair, but will continue. (It's a miserable job.) -----Alan
I'm glad to hear you're okay, Alan, and making good use of massage! Root*Center*Son gave me a hand massager last year, to help me be able to keep oiI painting longer. It helps.
Gardening sounds so good!! The last of our snow in the gardens has melted off, though we still have some in the deepest shadows and a pile at the end of the driveway where the plow stacked it.
Vermont’s Senator Peter Welch held a roundtable with Canadians and Americans, up at the border, and told them frankly that he is horrified at the tariffs.
I am grateful that many people are trying to stem the tide of the dictator’s whims. But I don’t yet feel encouraged. I need to see him prosecuted for actions that are beyond the reach of his official acts.
The US is awash in near-military grade firearms, probably many in the hands of people who are about to enter the "FO" stage of FAFO. Dealing with that could be a challenge for the Secret Service. Just sayin'. -----Alan
Edge (which I typically use for this site) says it can't sign in to my Google account. But no problem on Chrome.
My back injury from December has almost but not quite resolved. I can sit in my desk chair with only minor discomfort. No need to go lie down. And with a little gritting of teeth I can walk a half kilometer. Used to be able to do a full kilometer before my upper back started to hurt. Mostly been doing a lot of reading but need to start catching up on things.
~Susan. I have another protest coming up Saturday - "No Kings". I'm making a back-to-back giant qr code. One is "America needs no King" and the other is "Trump is not a King. He is a Terrorist". The situation in courthouse square is one where people will have time and space to scan the code if they wish.
~Susan. Because of all the damage they are doing I am copying unflattering photos I see and making postcards of them. I mail them to the appropriate idiot: Trump, Vance, Musk, Johnson, et al. You don't have to put your return address on a postcard so I let 'em have it with both barrels.
Another note: the battery in my MacBook was on its last legs, so I had it replaced, plus an upgraded operating system, which I am getting used to. -----Alan
Today that last bit of snow will melt!
ReplyDeleteHow is everyone? Are we all hiding out from the daily horrible news?
ReplyDeleteWe could declare a No News Day each week, just to hang out and stay in touch.

W. A., I'm glad to hear you're feeling some improvement! When pain subsides, it puts the shine back on life.

ReplyDeleteI like that second one especially!

ReplyDeleteThey may never see the postcards or even know they arrived. But their staff will.
Delete@listener, yes many will see them along the way, even if they never get to their intended viewer.

Nice to have a working Mac, eh? I hope to join you by Monday!
DeleteIn a few more days my inhouse computer expert will be back in house, and can help me to clean up some odds and ends.
