W.A. ... We went back and watched the second night of Dido and Aeneas tonight and they all did so well! Yes, that bit about Haste to Town is memorable, because it happens as a storm is approaching.
I invite you all to watch the performance! It's up on YouTube here: Dido and Aeneas 14 DEC 2024. Note that the actual presentatin begins at the 28:55mark. The director comes out and explains the story. Then the performance itself is only 50 minutes. VT*Grand is the Sorceress. She is not in Act 1, but is there at the very start of Act 2 and is in Act 3 as well. It's a tragedy. But remember, we're rooting for the Sorceress. LOL. ENJOY!!!
Pretty cool that it was written in 1688 and is still being performed. That's largely because it's a relatively easy (short) Opera, and it wss originally staged by kids about the ages of the high schoolers you see here.
And I remember the story of an elderly couple in a nursing home (different rooms); when the wife passed away staff and family members were very careful not to say anything about it to the husband. A few hours later, he asked "She's gone, isn't she?" and was soon gone himself. ----Alan
After telling me several times it couldn't sign into my Google account to allow me to comment as W. A. Thomasson, it suddenly allows me to do so.
These near-simultaneous deaths aren't the usual thing (as I know) but they seem to be more common that can be accounted for by chance or simliarities in age/health.

PS: Act II begins at the 51:50 mark. Most of the time, the lyrics are shown on the backdrop.
DeleteThe Sorceress' lighting colour is green.
Conan O’Brien’s parents both died this week, three days apart
ReplyDeleteIt is my understanding that surprisingly many long-married people pass away exactly a year after their spouse.

Hmm. The change occurred after I clicked on that box at the upper left. Significant?
DeleteAnother marvel of modern technology?

I don't see a box at upper left. What does it look like?
