Honeybee on Red Coneflower

  1. I got three texts from my brother, at 11:35pm:
What the hell is wrong with Bernie Sanders!!!! Why isn’t he endorsing Kamala Harris!!!
I am really disappointed in him
He was just on MSNBC and wouldn’t endorse her!!!

    My response:
Well, I’m not privy to his thoughts day by day, just by living in Vermont. But I did run in to him at the bakery a few weeks ago, so you never know. We don’t get MSNBC on our TV, so I had to go find the clip and watch it.
    Bernie on MSNBC
Sounds like he is already going on the campaign trail and telling people that they need to vote for Kamala Harris. So he’s doing more than most people are. From the clip I watched, it seems the reason he hasn’t formally endorsed Harris is that he is in negotiation with her regarding what her agenda will include. Rather than jump on the bandwagon as Dems need to do, as an Independent he has the advantage of negotiating items on the future-President-Elect’s agenda. He did this with Joe Biden and with Hillary as well. Nothing new here. It’s just what Bernie always does, to make sure that the concerns of the people are not being missed. I appreciate that he does this. But NOTE that he is already stumping for Harris! He’s doing more than most of us are. It’s not like he has doubts about her.

    🤷🏻‍♀️

    1. Then I came by and read the last thread and kind of giggled that Obama has just barely endorsed Harris himself. I think we can give Bernie some wiggle room, eh?

  2. Here’s How The Democratic National Convention Is Going To Work [Click] Rather complicated; Harris will have until August 7th to decide on her running mate. Article includes speculation about Harris’s VP choice, but does not evince awareness of her long established pattern of working behind the scenes.

    1. Of course Harris's choice of running mate could be one of those bruited about by the talking heads, but given her history as a politician, I shouldn't be surprised if it should be someone else.

    1. So it turns out that those studies claimin the benefits of alcohol were funded by the alcohol industry. Kind of like tobacco. --nordy

    4. I don't know about "alcohol industry." I mostly recall studies touting the benefits of red wine (I had two glasses with dinner). What trade group would be pushing that?

    5. Vineyards?
Seriously, there's quite a wine industry out there. DIL was contracted to do artwork for one vineyard's bottle labels, and they were sooooo particular with requests and regulations. We had no idear it would be so complicated.

    6. An individual vineyard wouldn't be funding research. And it's hard to think of a trade group that would be specifically pushing red wine. This seeded to be associated with the Mediterranean diet thing.

I don’t think I will have to bar the door and take the phone off the hook, but it sounds like the Republicans are whistling past the graveyard. Thinking about the problems I had as the result of Harris’s mistake (?) as DA in San Francisco, to be fair it was the prosecutors and judges in Alameda County who gave be trouble because of it; I didn’t testify in San Francisco.

    1. I've been reading about it and it sounds really bad. There are so many fires this season and many of them are large and/or out of control. We are in the Yellow category here today because of the Canadian wildfires.

  6. I've never had children. I am crazy about cats. That is, I am one of JD Vance's “childless cat ladies who are miserable in their own lives” --and who are running the Democratic Party.
I'll take a pass on the misery. Also, I'm not running the Democratic Party. And I take umbrage at the whole nasty sterotype.
And I think Vance will provide us with a lot of entertainment between now and Nov. 5. --nordy

  8. Today I learned a new skill: docking the sailboat. I have come onto a mooring scores of times, but this was the first time I have brought the boat in where a hard stop is required. (Hard stop not meaning hitting anything, just that if you don't stop in time you WILL!). With a mooring ball, if you miss the mark you simply sail around again. With a dock there's, well, a dock walkway in front of you. But! I did the deed several times and without hitting anything at all. Very pleased!!

Turns out you CAN teach an old dog new tricks! Or, in my case, perhaps, an old cat.

    1. I am reminded of a practice boat for drivers of big oil tankers that I once saw in a video; the driver's eyes were at the height proportional to where they would be in the real thing, so the view is realistic; the power and steering were proportional too. And what Bill said!
