  3. I have been using an under-desk pedal exerciser [Click] for quite some time, to little effect. Three or four days ago I increased the drag a bit and doubled the amount of time I use it each day. This morning I could get up from bed quickly, easily, safely, and promptly walk to the bathroom with no lower back pain. Very nice. One can also put it on a table or bench and use it for arm and shoulder exercise.

    1. It is also now quite a bit easier to put on my socks, a not-insignificant improvement in quality of life.

    2. Alan, that's great!

Perhaps not unrelated: On days when I use the elliptical (walking machine) I feel significantly better. It is a bit difficult to climb up onto, which is why I don't use it every day. But it definitely helps.

    3. Ah, I once tried a big elliptical and vowed never again.
Instead I use this little one.
      Stamina in Motion Elliptical
It even fits under a bed or table.
I'm able to balance on it and even read a book while exercising.
But! I began by holding onto the back of a chair in front of me, then using an old high chair to hold my book.

    4. I love that this little elliptical is gentle on the knees.
I imagine your pedal exerciser is quite similar, yes?
My kids tell me it's more like riding a bike standing up than a true elliptical.
      I'm good with that.

    5. Yes, it seems quite similar if used while sitting.

    1. It seems very popular. In Australia one needs an acceptable excuse to NOT vote.

I just got a Singing Valentine phone call from VT*Grand and her high school a cappella group "Sweet Transition"!! ❤️ I Want to Hold Your Hand by the Beatles was just right. They'll be singing hundreds of singing Valentines all through the school (and beyond) today. I feel so honoured to have received one! 🥰

  9. HARRUMPH! HARRUMPH, I SAY!
It looks like land line telephone service may be discontinued around here in the not too distant future. Among other reasons, there is ongoing theft of wires. Changing to one or multiple cell phones seems like a terrific nuisance to me, and expensive to boot. Do you know of a way to simulate land line service? When we get a phone call, after a little pause (during which we can pick up the call from any of four different extension phones distributed around the house) the call switches over to an answering machine. We don't have to keep recharging the receivers. We don't do text messaging, and don't want it. Any ideas would be welcome.

    2. Around here VoIP -- Voice over Internet Protocol -- would be an alternative. That looks like a landline except the connection come in over your internet rather than a separate line

  11. We finished all the pruning, including fruit trees, wisteria, roses, etc. and got all the cuttings into the trash cans. Next on to the back yard (already pruned the new growth, but will prune them harder to reduce them in size).
