September 21, 2023 By Taegan Goddard

A federal judge set the trial of the defamation case against Rudy Giuliani by Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss for December 11 and ordered the parties to be present in the courtroom for the duration of the trial.

    1. I figure he might get sort of a grand tour of prisons and jails while his trials run their course.

  4. Three items from politicalwire.com:

“My advice is, ‘Go sit down with Hakeem Jeffries.’ If he’s got a solid majority of his caucus. Why wouldn’t he? This is the tail wagging the dog. That’s not the way to do it.”
    — Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC), quoted by the New York Times, on the House GOP’s inability to govern.

House Republican leadership is sending members home for the week, after a series of failed attempts to make progress on government funding, Punchbowl News reports.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) filed cloture on a bill that could be a vehicle for a short term funding bill next week.

    1. And a fourth:
Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) told CNN that if the House GOP doesn’t pass a short-term spending bill — which looks likely at this point — he will sign a discharge petition and join forces with Democrats to try to pass one.

  6. Got a batch of mail via my good neighbor helper bee yesterday, one of which was a birthday card signed by the banker girls and boys. Can't remember getting any such from them prior, and I was, to say the least, touched. Nice place to live I picked when choice making 25 or so years ago.

    2. Very sweet of them, puddle!

We like our digs too. In fact, we're hopeful we'll never need to move, as Vermont is working on ways to keep elderly folks in their own homes and send aides out to them. I guess we'll see how long we can do that, but there are a good number of people here that live in their own homes until they need Hospice and then Respite House. That entity is a solidly good place to go when needed, because it takes the caregiving pressure off the family in a person's final days, and allows pain medication that could be vital. I also like that it gives you a "front crew" to keep unwanted visitors out.
