Favourite restaurant for 46 years has fallen to COVID-19

Utterly heartbreaking. 💔
Young's Restaurant in Durham, NH is closing permanently.
Wil and I have been dining at Young’s since our college days, and I even remember eating there while pregnant with our first child. 46 years of Young’s, and we have 5 children and 8 grandchildren. Always the people at Young’s were wonderful, the food excellent and the atmosphere just got better and better.
We are so grateful for everything all these years. 💛
They will be sorely missed and so fondly remembered!

  1. I remember going back to my hometown and discovering that the most popular family restaurant was gone. That was a long time ago now.

    1. "It seems to met that..." should be "It seems to ME that..." But you knew that.

    1. Admittedly math and I don't get along at all, but that makes no sense to me. Wouldn't that mean DoorDash is losing money?

    2. I should think so. But I'm also mathematically challenged.

  5. Ford is stupid. and no wonder the cultists say insane things like "God bows down to trump" because they see everyone else bowing down to him. Buncha wimps.

    1. They could give him a Zoom tour, or a small purpose built sealed transport vehicle--kind of like a popemobile.

  6. I can't resist posting this: Column: Trump’s coronavirus response has been brilliant. Here’s what you don’t understand. In case you're not familiar with him, Hupke is a satirist. I think this is one of his better efforts.

  7. I keep wondering which of the restaurants near me will reopen once Illinois reaches Phase 4. Only one full-service restaurant is currently offering carry-out. (I don't count the pizzeria and several lunch-type spots.) I have a bad feeling that many of the others will simply be gone. Including Hemingway's Bistro, where I have a $100 gift card and $25 discount card. I celebrated my 83rd birthday there and hope to repeat for my 84th come August.

One of the ironies is that two of Oak Park's longest-running restaurants closed in January, before Covid-19 was a thing. If memory serves, Winbery's was to first restaurant to open after Oak Park repealed its dry laws.

    1. I expect to see a big jump in cases in June because here in Ohio restaurants are opening up for inside dining again. I'm pretty sure they opened up tattoo and massage parlors last week. None of it makes any sense to me.

  9. Sooo, the stray kitty has taken a shine to me! Today he even let me rub him! As I was out pulling poison ivy out of the lawn and the berm (this has never happened before, but it is springing up all over the place! Argh!), I was moving along behind a row of Lilacs without really looking up. I heard something, looked up and he was not 5 feet ahead of me! I backed down the row, then came over to him on the other side of the row of little Lilacs. He isn't afraid of me anymore, so didn't run away. So I gingerly reached through a Lilac and gave him a gentle forehead rub. He loved it! I'm sure it's been since he was a baby kitten that he's gotten any rubs. He is said to be not quite one year old. Then I gave him a few ear scratches. Later he actually walked over to me! So I sat down on the ground and he lay down by me and let me rub him. I started slow, but within about 20 minutes I was permitted to rub his whole back, then even his tail. And...he PURRED!!!

Unfortunately he is very smart and, although pretty hungry, he refused to walk into the raccoon sized Have a Heart trap. Dang! We came so close to catching him at last! Tonight we have the trap propped open (such that it cannot close) with some dry food in a bowl only part way in. We'll see if he'll venture that far.

If this doesn't work, we will see if the vet will allow us to put a little sedative into his food, so that he can be caught easily. The plan is for his adoptive people to take him straight to the vet to get all fixed up: ticks, fleas, deworming, rabies and other shots and neutering. The poor fellow! But after that his life will be golden.

Between feeling ticks behind his ears and seeing how much he wants rubs and relationship, I think he's going to do great domesticated.
