  1. Hmmmmmm. . . it will be up to the governors. So which governors will be most likely to go along? Those of Republican-voting states. So the epidemic will bloom again in those states. Shortly before the election.

    1. "Shortly before the election"? I wouldn't use that term for May or even June. Do you have something in mind that I'm not seeing?

    2. Several months before, and then it will develop over time.

    1. I saw that headline, and the concept makes great sense to me.

What the President Was Supposed to Do All Along. [Click] “Joe Biden’s minimalist version of the presidency could be a blessing in disguise.” I’m not at all sure I agree, and first of all Biden needs to get elected—which is not a foregone conclusion. But maybe this is an argument to consider.

  4. Biden's Path to Victory Does Not Bode Well for Voters [Click] “Like Trump in '16, he coasted on free media coverage. If that's the future of campaigning, America's in trouble.”

Perhaps they should consult Homer Simpson:

“Gee, there are so many gods. What happens if we believe in the wrong one? Every time we go to church we just make the real one madder and madder.”

“What’s the point of going out? We’re just going to wind up back here anyway.”

  6. Friday 17 more cases of Covid-19 identified in Fresno County, for a total of 173. Two more elderly people died, for a total of five. Death rate per 100,000 residents = 0.5, about a third of the state average, half that in the Central Valley as a whole, and a fifth that of nearby Tulare County (whence comes Devin Nunes). In the City of Fresno the shelter in place order has been extended from 12th April to May 6th, city parks will be closed this weekend, workers at essential businesses will have to answer a county health department screening questionnaire when reporting for work each day and must wear face masks. People are now “directed” to shelter in place, rather than being “called on” to do so; that means the police and code enforcement personnel can penalize scofflaw individuals and businesses.

    1. The County of Fresno has about the same population as Delaware, and more people than South Dakota, North Dakota, Alaska, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming (individually, not collectively). So it’s actually a fairly populous county. Only about a third the population of Chicago, though.
