    1. If someone, anyone, other than Trump wins this year's election, how many years will it take to reverse all the wrongheaded decisions and clear up all the harm from the Trump admin.? There's the viciousness. There's the ignorance and disregard for law, custom and tradition. There's the sheer, bloodyminded stupidity! And, it reaches into every corner and cranny of American life, and far beyond our borders. He is poison, invidious, all-pervasive poison, pure and simple.

    2. I think a considerable part of the damage cannot be undone. The international credibility and influence of the US is probably beyond repair. Now people and governments around the world will remember all those times the US did things they did not approve of but acquiesced to, and will consider how the balances of various kinds of powers have changed.

    1. That's good news for my portfolio; though, unfortunately, it's probably good news for Trump too. :(

  3. The Democrats Abroad primary runs from March 3 through March 10. So, today's the last day.

Interesting that the standards are higher for water that crosses a state line than for in-state.

Sorry? I missed something. What about crossing state lines? Alan was talking about bottled water as well as Fresno and environs and I was talking about Springfield and environs. Nobody said anything about water crossing state lines AFAIK.

    1. I did. I explained that we have had to drink bottled water since our town voted to go on city water, because the city water gives us sore throats. Alan had mentioned that city water is better for you than bottled water. I simple mentioned that bottled water that crosses a state line is held to different standards than bottled water that remains in state. All the water we purchase comes from out of state. It helps a little bit.

    2. Ah. Bottled water, as in interstate commerce. Sorry, Listener. For some reason I was envisioning water pipes crossing state lines, and that wasn't computing.

  4. The order of thirty surgical masks Dad ordered arrived today.

After telling me this, he said he's quite confused about the whole situation and then delivered himself of the opinion that the rumors that the masks don't actually help was probably started by the CDC, who were concerned there would be a run on masks so doctors and nurses would not be able to get them.

Either he heard the absurdity of the assertion once he put it into words, or else my face betrayed my dismay and incredulity, because he backtracked. "I guess they wouldn't really do that."

"No! They wouldn't!" I said forcefully, adding that I have heard nothing at all about masks being ineffective.

He was surprised. The doctor who is a regular on Fox News has said so repeatedly. "And he's usually very intelligent."

You can imagine the strain on my self-restraint that statement caused!

Don't think I mentioned that the other day I caught a snippet (don't know if it was on TV or radio) in which a man's voice was saying that the Corinavrus virus is playing itself out or dying down. The irresponsibility of the barefaced lie took my breath away.

No wonder people are confused with so much misinformation competing for airtime so to speak with reliable information. And, honestly, how is the ordinary man on the street, one who doesn't have the time or ability to sort through it all, supposed to know what to believe? I understand distrust of government agencies. I have a fair amount of it myself, though not generally towards the CDC. Besides, most people trust the news broadcast they watch. It's not easy to detect lies and omissions. Hence, confusion, which could so easily turn into panic.

    1. Masks on sick people are reasonably effective in preventing them from infecting others. That occurs mostly as a result of droplets emitted when they cough or talk, and the mask catches those droplets and keeps them from spreading. Masks on healthy people do very little. Even if they catch a droplet that would otherwise land on your face, the virus can still get through into your airspace.

CoVid-19 seems to be dying down in China. Not in Italy, and we haven't yet seen much anywhere else.

    2. Gosh. Has anyone died of it yet?

    3. Yes, people have died from stem cell transplants. It's called graft-vs-host disease.

  7. At the moment, HuffingtonPost is showing 801 Michigan votes for Joe and 795 for Bernie. Long, long way to go.

    1. That's no surprise. HuffingtonPost has also called Missouri for Biden, although with almost no votes counted. Apparently that was based on exit polls.

    2. And the news networks keep talking about candidates "winning" this state or that, as if the primaries were winner take all. It's the delegate counts that matter.

    3. Once, just once, I'd love to see one of these networks that calls a race with, say, 0% of the precincts reporting have to eat their words and report, with 100% of precincts reporting, that another candidate actually won. It's never gonna happen but, boy, wouldn't it be nice?

  12. Yang endorses Biden

Despite supporting Sanders in 2016 and running a campaign pretty far from the policy positions of the former vice-president, Andrew Yang endorsed Joe Biden shortly after outlets began calling Michigan in his favor.

    1. CNN: Former Democratic presidential candidate and CNN political commentator Andrew Yang endorses Joe Biden: "The math says Joe is our prohibitive nominee."

Yang appears to be correct about the math: So far in the night, Biden has picked up at least 110 delegates, while Sanders has earned only 50.

    1. 😔

Again we have been dissed and ignored. Bah.

I think I need a whole day without turning on my devices. Don’t worry, I’ll be back the next day...you are the good people!! But I might make it a regular Wednesday thing. A reading day. A day for silence and solitude and breathing. We are going to need to take care of ourselves.

If you can spare a vibe or prayer, please offer one for Youngest. His fever was higher today and it has me worried because he also has asthma. Ironically, he called his doc to say he’s sick and he needs his inhaler renewed. They told him to just keep an eye on his illness. No need to come in yet. Then they told him they can’t renew his inhaler until he comes in again. I told him to speak directly to his doctor about that. Ridiculous!!

  14. trump or no trump I just cannot, CANNOT, vote for Biden. Joe Biden is the Democratic Party's golem, created by them to preserve their own power and status. We will continue to suffer and they just don't care. They would rather watch this country burn to the ground than embrace *any* ideas that would help the people.

    1. A corporatist weather vane showing signs of senility will not get my vote. For better or worse, my vote in the general election doesn't count--California will surely vote for the Democratic Party nominee no matter what. Or whom. It's Bernie or third party for me. In the past three elections I have voted for a woman (none of whom was named Clinton). This time I will probably vote for a man, given the likely choices.

    2. The most recent (I hope he won't be the last) Democratic Party nominee for whom I voted was Al Gore--who conceded Florida before the votes were counted, the fool. The final straw was when Kerry chose Edwards as his running mate. I continue to hope that I may live to see another Democratic ticket I can vote for. I see myself basically as a (slightly improved, I flatter myself) New Deal Democrat, as my parents were.
