MLK DAY

  1. New York Times Endorses Warren and Klobuchar. [Click] Klobuchar? I think that sounds like they are endorsing Warren and saying Biden won't do.

  2. And also saying Buttegieg won't do.

    1. But mostly saying Sanders won’t do. 😡

    2. Perhaps NYT is supporting women candidates. As a woman, this bugs me. I wouldn't want to be excluded for being a woman. Neither would I want to be supported because I am a woman. Just vote for the best and brightest.

    3. I read many of Amy Siskind's posts on FB. She is another one who will be all in for ANY woman just because she's a woman. Reminds me of the rabid Hillbots who are STILL trying to pin her loss on Bernie. Also saw Elizabeth Warren is claiming people are asking for refunds of their donations "because I'm a woman". No, Liz, it's because you LIED.

    4. D'y'know, I can imagine Bernie and Elizabeth having a conversation, as friends do, about their upcoming campaigns. And I can imagine them bantering about where the country is at, as well as the party mindset. So, I can easily imagine Bernie saying the tenor of country right now suggests they might not be willing to elect a woman (meaning the Republican mindset mostly). But there is no way he would have said it in the context that is being attributed to him, of him being anti-woman or suggesting she not run, or somehow thinking a woman isn't capable of being President. So I think the while darn thing is being blown out of proportion. And I was not happy when I heard the hot mic exchange. She really chose the wrong place to do that. Operative words: "She chose."

    5. I think you are about right, listener. The pressure on her must be tremendous, and I suspect that it was too much at that point. Bernie and Biden both have the advantage of having run for President before--so they know what it is like. Well, Iowa will be over soon, and for the survivors it will be one devil of a downhill race from then on. I expect that the leak that Bernie had considered Warren as both VP and Treasury Secretary was no accident. That would, should it be made, be quite an offer--besides a big advantage for her in running for the Presidency in another four or eight years. And I think Bernie is enough of a mensch to do it, even if there are a couple more little kerfuffles.

    6. If they did run with one another for Pres and VP, it would underscore that the rift was mended and that the party is more united than assumed.

    7. And, yeah. Bernie is mensch enough to do it despite the kerfuffle.

  3. Duckworth Calls Amtrak’s $25,000 Quote For Disabled Passengers ‘Outrageous’ [Click] “The Americans with Disabilities Act has been the law of the land for 30 years,” the senator wrote on Twitter.
Sounds to me like the Amtrak CEO is a Trump appointee.

  4. Richard Anderson Wikipedia entry. [Click] Appointed 2017. Prior to his role at Amtrak, Anderson served as Chief Executive of Delta Air Lines from 2007 to 2016, as CEO of Northwest Airlines from 2001 to 2004, which would later merge with Delta, and Executive Vice President of United Healthcare from 2004 to 2007.[8][9] In 2010, Anderson led an anti-union campaign against the Association of Flight Attendants, calling the labor union "un-Christian" and "immoral." Cute.

    1. Unchristian and immoral? What a load of dingoes' kidneys! It always strikes me as amusing that people whose own actions are unchristian and immoral brandish these words as weapons against anyone who gets in their way, especially if the people in their way are asking for a raise or, as in the present case, for the law to be observed.

  5. Trump’s Encounter with the Constitution [Click] Once again the question arises of whether he has a reading problem. It occurs to me to wonder if he is afflicted with dyslexia, either inborn or acquired. I have never heard of acquired dyslexia, but see no reason there couldn’t be such a thing.

    1. From the Wikipedia entry: [Click]
“…When someone who previously could read loses their ability, it is known as ‘alexia’… Dyslexia that develops due to a traumatic brain injury, stroke, or dementia is called ‘acquired dyslexia’.” [Emphasis added.]

    2. I did not know that. Maybe "Alexa" should have a new name? Also, trump often mangles words and cannot pronounce them. He's just plain malfunctioning.

    3. "Alexia" is a new word to me as well, but it makes perfect sense.

    4. I was thinking of Amazon's "Alexa", as in "Alexa, play Baby Shark".

"Sen. Amy Klobuchar is pitching herself for the White House as the commonsense Midwestern answer to President Donald Trump — while former staffers portray her as a brutal boss who mistreated them."

Also, Newt Gingrinch praised Klobuchar saying she will work with Republicans, so she's dead to me.

    1. I believe in bipartisanship in principle, but it is not a goal to be striven for in and of itself. When the Republicans are wrong, you don't work with them, since that amounts to appeasement. There's nothing wrong in seeking out areas of agreement. In fact it seems to me that should be done far oftener than it is. But for Gingrich to state that any Democrat "will work with Republicans", making as it were a blanket statement, that's pretty damning. I shouldn't think any Democrat would want that kind of endorsement!

    1. Donald should count himself lucky that the US constitution rules out the punishment administered to Charles.

    2. That's a crying shame really. That's the kind of punishment I would vote for in *his* case because he has done so much harm to so many.

    3. Despite my opposition to the death penalty, I might make an exception for Trump...except, you're not allowed to execute the mentally incompetent. A private cell at Leavenworth and a pair of black and white striped pajamas that fits (or do they wear orange jumpsuits these days?) is the best we're going to do; though a nice, cozy room at St. Elizabeth's might be more suitable.

    4. Yeah. Wherever he ends up, I hope there's a guard posted.

    5. In many jurisdictions they use color-coded jumpsuits; but I recall one large jurisdiction where they still use the old-fashioned wide horizontal stripes--again color-coded. I remember seeing one accused person who was brought to court wearing an Oregon Boot, although it was invisible, being covered by his pant leg. He couldn't run, that was for sure.

It seems that National Medical Association policy favors the Affordable Care Act, but they have not taken a position on Medicare For All.

  10. Oh, it seems I was confused about when I will be wanted in South Lake Tahoe; evidently it will be NEXT week. It is so unheard of for me to pack for a trip more than a day in advance that I suggested we get a photo of me seated next to my bag and holding a calendar. For a long trip my sweetie will start packing more than a month in advance. [When I worked every other weekend I kept a bag ready to go.]

      And you kiss my @ss.
