  2. Wait...WHAT?!!

    1. And this isn't even a standard example of Trump trying to erase everything Obama did. These rules date back to the administration of, let's see --- Ronald Reagan.

    2. I fully expect that California will file suit and obtain an injunction. I will check the California newspapers and let you know--but it may take a few hours (I have a television interview at 2PM).

    3. LA Times: [Gov.] Newsom, [AG] Becerra lash out at Trump plan on California emissions standards. [Click] “Becerra said the attorney general’s office will wait until the EPA’s official directive is released before deciding the most effective way to challenge it in the courts. He noted that a similar attempt by former President George W. Bush failed after a successful legal challenge.”

    1. Please! There is no chance of any kind of peace as long as Netanyahu is in charge.

  4. Wow! Fantastic photo of Elizabeth Warren at her Washington Square rally! [Click] I did a double-take, wondering if it were a digital creation or an actual live photo, and decided it was probably the latter.

    1. For a news feature (broadcast yet to be scheduled) on the local abc station about CBD [cannabidiol]. Several interviewees; I was there to answer questions about lab testing. The boss at my previous job asked if I could take care of it, and I said yes.

    2. In case anybody here missed it, there was a big AP story about how all too often what's sold as CBD actually isn't. That's probably what sparked the television feature.

    3. That's news to me (double intender intended), but makes sense.

  6. Sorry didn't post this last night. My phone line was out.

    Megan

    PICU day 7
    Days on the vent: 6

Slight improvement today. We are hopeful dialysis has been avoided for now. Here’s the harsh truth though: his kidneys may not have enough reserve to take another hit like this. And we don’t even know what has caused all of this, so it’s hard to know how to prevent it. Maybe we can’t.

They are hoping to extubate him to bipap on Thursday. That will require getting rid of the sedation so I suspect the next 4 days or so may be rough. (Reducing sedation leading up to getting the tube out and then getting it out of his system and getting back to himself.) But, tonight should be relatively peaceful.

    1. Ohhhh good. I felt I was on tenterhooks today not knowing. I was so hoping nothing bad would happen for Tanner on your birthday. Good news is even better than I hoped. Maybe there are ways to strengthen his kidneys between now and anything else happening. But at any rate, it sounds like they need to find out what caused this...! How are his T cells? That could tell how his immune system is doing. In my experience, when the immune system is low, everything that happens hits harder. Tanner and Megan have been through so darn much. May he only improve from here!!

Sweetnesses to you on your birthday! I'm glad your phone came back up today...!! 🎉🎂

    2. In many cases it's an overstimulated/overactive immune system that makes things worse. You want to ramp the immune response down. The researchers I worked with tended to concentrate on that area. Not that I have any insight about Tanner's situation. A lot of the symptoms sound similar to sepsis, but I'm sure they thought of that and tested for it first thing.

    3. Wow. Thanks, Bill.

I guess what we all need is a good ol' normal immune system.

      And all those organs working!!

  10. Alan, I came across "Death of a Foy" in two different collections, several months apart. It made me laugh just as hard the second time, even vaguely remembering the punchline. The man was a genius!
