Total Lunar Eclipse on MLK Jr Day!

I tried to get a photo at peak, when it was all reddish, but the snow was moving back in and it was too hazy and dark for a photo. But we saw it through to full eclipse. We won't get to watch the second half as the light returns, as it is snowing again.

During the course of this thread today, please post your favourite MLK, Jr quotes.

  1. "History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

  2. Kamala Harris has announced her campaign slogan. [Click] As memory serves me, it was also Marina le Pen’s campaign slogan. KH is trying to evoke comparisons with Shirley Chisholm, and she sure ain’t no Shirley Chisholm. I particularly remember her involvement in the scandal of SF police officers’ previous convictions not being revealed to the defense. As a California politician she has a reputation as a skilled back room operator, and she is a full-blooded Clintonista. Well, Well, here [Click] is FiveThirtyEight’s take on her. I wonder if I can find a “Dave Kovic President 2020” bumper sticker…

Rudy really stepped in it this time. [Click] NYT sets it out clearly.

  3. The Whitewashing of King’s Assassination [Click] “In the official story told to children, King’s assassination is the transformational tragedy in a victorious struggle to overcome.” Can anyone tell me if this statement is true? I should hope not, but there are so many other misrepresentations in grade school history books that I should not be surprised.

    1. Many of those misrepresentations are by omission, certainly.

  4. I see that Dear Leader and Dear Vice Leader stopped off at the MLK memorial for a whole TWO minutes! Photo indicates they actually got out of their golf cart.

  6. Being on so many mailing lists, I get multiple requests to sign the same petitions and to become a citizen co-sponsor of the same bills. It gets confusing. I keep meaning to start a list, because surely it is counterproductive to sign the same things more than once.

It doesn't help that they send the same e-mail with different subject lines, so you think you're looking at something new.

    1. I agree, Cat. And I strongly dislike when they send messages from the same group but begin it with a different staffer's name. I keep thinking I'm getting spammed when it's something I would read more readily if they just started with the group's name each time.
