Bernie is fine.  Here he is at last month's State of the Union address.  Feel better?

  1. There seems to be something about the T-shirt design that eludes me. I presume I should recognize the face, but I don't. Can someone enlighten me?

I sent Andrew Janz a little love--$27, of course. His contributions are set up through Act Blue, which is a good sign.

  2. John Lennon. But I recognized it more from the lyrics than the excellence of the image.

    1. Thanks, puddle; I think that possibility crossed my mind; but the connection still is not obvious.

    2. From an imperfect memory:

They say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope someday that you will join us, and the world will be at one.

The lines come from a song called "Imagine."

  3. Aha! The legend on the T-shirt is from the lyrics of a John Lennon song.

    1. Yes, I feel better; the first photo must have been taken with an emaciating filter.

P.S.: Is it my imagination, or does Bernie look awfully thin in the photo above?

    1. Yes, I see that too. He works way too hard, but I guess he feels he has no choice with the state our country is in right now.

    2. Do we have to stage an intervention, go up there and get some more food into him? Everybody needs some reserves.

    3. Well, here's the thing. The company that makes those tee shirts borrows old photos of likely supporters and makes up the photo. There's one of Tom Hanks that looks exactly like another one I've seen of Tom Hanks but he's wearing a different tee shirt.
To reassure you all that Bernie is well, I'll post on the front page a photo of Bernie from this year's SOTU.

    4. All the same, sending along some Ben & Jerry's is probably a good idear.

    5. Yes, that second photo is much better. The first must have been taken with an emaciating filter.--Alan

    6. The photo is from his trip to Palm Springs last February. He was probably still recovering from the Campaign schedule!

    7. He also had a small surgery to remove a lesion from his head, and the stress of the Election was enough to send us all to the doctor. Bernie is alive and well and still rocking the world.

  5. Chicago Tribune headline: Trump's $4.4 trillion budget features soaring deficits.

Do you think it's time to elect someone socially progressive and fiscally conservative?

  6. As of yesterday, Chicago had tied the record for nine consecutive days of measurable snowfall. But no snow expected today.

  7. Just heard that Vic Damone died today. Very distressing.

    1. Yes, the pop music of those days was very nice. He lived a full life, I think.

    2. Yesterday, actually. I only heard this afternoon. I always loved his voice. I've spent the evening listening to him on YouTube. Sound recording is a marvelous thing.

  8. A Reckoning with Women Awaits Trump[Click] Well, we can certainly hope! As for the Steve Bannon quotes, it seems to me that he not only looks like a derelict wino, he talks like one too. But in his way, he can be entertaining at times.

  9. Abraham Lincoln's Secret Visits to Slaves[Click] In the mid-1930s, the Federal Writers’ Project interviewed thousands of former slaves, some of whom claimed the president came to their plantations disguised as a beggar or a peddler, telling them they’d soon be free.

    1. Thanks for posting this, Alan!! I felt bad when I realised I hadn't posted a tribute to Honest Abe today. A friend of mine turned 75 today and I was thinking of her when I was setting photos for the front page, instead of Abe. Her family sent out a call for a Card Birthday, and I hope she was inundated with well wishes. I made a card to send, included a long hand-written letter of appreciation for her in it, and sent a pair of hand-dipped Candlemas candles, hand-decorated. She is a retired clergy woman and served for many years at the church that gives me the candle stubs I made the candles with.
