      No shit, Sherlock!

To be fair, it does seem like lawyers are working hard in the Resistance.

    2. I gather that Democratic state attorneys general are tag-teaming the Feds--using much the same techniques their opposite numbers did in times past. Turnabouts is fair play, no?

  2. listener--our daughter favors vinyl erasers such as you prefer, and she is a professional artist. I have read that some people have difficulties with art gum erasers smudging, but I have not. I remember reading that there is some technique involved, but it seems to be something I do without thinking about it. There was a review somewhere that explained it, but I can't find it just now. Art gum erasers are least likely to damage the paper, so I think that is best for my anticipated work with heavy watercolor paper.

  3. 6th click was the charm getting in just now. This error glitch is getting worse, I think. I imagine the Russians are hacking our site.

  4. DT has come out in favor of due process, and thinks that whatever crime someone does ought to be fully punished in accord with the crime. Somebody mark this page.

  5. To round out my Roald Dahl week, I read The BFG and reread James and the Giant Peach, both delightful books. Currently reading a heroic fantasy, Knight's Shadow by Sebastien De Castell.

    1. Finished Knight's Shadow and currently downloading the next in the series. For some reason I have never understood Perkins, my regional Talking Book library, invariably sends book two or even book three in a series, never book one. So, if I enjoy the book they sent, I then have to go back. In this case, they sent book two. I'm going to go ahead and read book three and then see.

  6. I just began getting the error message two days ago, and it does seem to be getting worse.

Got the predicted flooding, but not too huge. No dry days predicted for a week though.

  7. We sure could use some rain; it has been a very dry winter so far, and substantial rain later on is very unusual. High pressure ridge is still pushing "our" rain (and snow) back east.

  8. Got our fruit trees sprayed just in time (dormant oil except for the persimmons, then sprayed the peach trees for peach leaf curl). We have a nice crop of tangelos this year. I was pressed for time and didn't do a good job of pruning, but it is good enough for now. A better job next year. (One persimmon and the tangelo still need to be pruned, but they can wait for another week or maybe even two. Experimenting with some different exercises for carpal tunnel syndrome; at least they won't do any harm. (Unlike using the pruning hook, which was not the brightest idea I have ever had, but the work had to be done and I will get over it. I use an electric saw as much as I can.)

    1. Yikes! Is it maybe time to teach someone how to prune fruit trees, by letting them do the grunt work while you guide them?

    2. Nah. And very surprisingly, my right hand and forearm, which I figured would be considerably the worse for wear after pulling on that pruner rope so much and so hard, are actually BETTER now (about four hours after I quit) by a good bit. I went looking for a photo of the sort of pruning hook (tree pruner) I have on amazon, and it seems that nowadays most of them have about twice the mechanical advantage of mine. Hmmmm....maybe after decades of use I could get a better one? The ones with roller chain mechanisms work better too (I used one at a friend's house a while back). But the old one still does the job. Next year I will both thin and cut back the fruit trees to control their size and give better fruit. Our plum tree is putting out a number of vigorous shoots from above the graft that I am training to replace the old limbs. One old peach tree is being replaced by a new one, but still survives; it has one big old limb left that just keeps going, and a successful graft I made as well. Another old peach also continues to produce and remain standing; I have a new white peach coming along nearby. This next winter I can get the pruning and spraying done at a leisurely pace and in plenty of time. The day will come when I must hire gardeners to do the pruning, but not yet.
