  2. Two GOP Senators Lose All Credibility
January 16, 2018 at 8:20 am ESTBy Taegan Goddard

James Hohmann: “Credibility is like virginity. You only get to lose it once.”

After Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) said that President Trump had complained about the United States taking immigrants from “shithole countries,” two Republican senators who attended the meeting — Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) and Sen. David Purdue (R-GA) took issue with their Democratic colleague. It turns out their denials were based on hearing Trump say “shithouse” instead of “shithole” — as if that makes a difference.

“Cotton and Perdue will be defined by this moment, in part, because other senators will remember their attacks on Durbin. This will make them less trustworthy as potential partners and thus less effective as members of Congress.”

Jennifer Rubin: “Colleagues on both sides of the aisle should keep these two Republican senators’ rampant, flippant dishonesty in mind going forward. Should either come before the Senate for a confirmable position, the Senate should reject the nomination. If they lied about this, they’d lie about anything.”

Not something they can’t do, not something available in places they can’t go.

    1. Yeah, Alan, I was just coming here to post about the "Clock" test too. I took that test in 2nd grade so they'd know how to place me in a new school. As I recall, it's also about how fast you can do the test. (What would have happened if the letters DACA had been in the list of letters to read? Ha!)

When I was in the ordination process, I had to undergo a psychiatric workup. It involved more than one test (one of them lasted at least 45 minutes) and a long, involved interview with a psychiatrist. [I was deemed "unlikely to become ill under pressure" and had a lot of fun telling my family that I was the only family member "certified sane." LOL!]

Had I become a clergy member, I would have had much responsibility...yet nothing like that of the President...!! So this test of DT is a real insult. Or, as a friend of mine who was a school psychologist put it, "Pathetic! Total disrespect and -regard for all of us!"

    2. Hey! If DT's docs say he's not insane, then he can't use the insanity defense. Ha!
